A little colour: Boxing Day at Grandma’s
2009
10 December
Hi David, Amanda and Matthew,
We look forward to seeing you at our home on Boxing Day. David's mother sent an email yesterday to tell us that you would like to come during the afternoon of Saturday 26 December and that David and Amanda would like to stay for the night. You are welcome. We will arrange later where you will be able to sleep. As it is only one night we will be pleased if you can bring sleeping bags if you have them. We can provide a mattress for each of you and we do have one camp bed.
It is possible to arrange for David's dietary requirements but if he has special instructions please let us know, eg what do you have for breakfast...potatoes, rice...brown or white? There will be fresh and tinned fruit.
We have invited Andy, Ann, Brendon & Ella and perhaps Jonathan will call in. Your mother and Arnold will be here too of course. They return from Masterton early afternoon on 26th.
Please confirm your plans and needs. Have a happy time on Christmas Day.
With love,
Grandma & Grandpa.

Hi Grandma and Grandpa
Amanda and I should be able to make it, we have sleeping bags. We'd probably arrive late afternoon? But we will keep you up to date anyway.
I can bring my own breakfast - by the way, do you normally have a block of cheese in the fridge?
-David

I should probably add, that I haven't been feeling very well in the past little while, and if I'm still unwell come Boxing Day, I wouldn't be able to make it. But I'll definitely tell you closer to the day.

We are sorry to learn that you have not been feeling too well. You are very welcome to visit and to stay on Boxing Day if at all possible. With love, G & G.
PS Your mother suggested in her email last evening that 27th may have been more suitable. We are committed to helping a friend that afternoon. You can stay to play croquet if you wish. Indoor games if the afernoon is wet.-

A totally different time period..

Hello David
Hand paced 'cottage' industries preceded heavy industry for hundreds of years.
We are pleased that you are able to get something you need with the gift. We have a small Scanpan which Grandpa and his sister Paulene purchased when she was here a couple years ago Your mother and Arnold are very fussy about the frypans they use. Arnold likes their heavy iron pan but that needs careful cleaning. I find it too weighty.
On Friday 30 November Grandpa plans to visit Southward's Museum while I go to the end of year lunch for our writing group. The hostess lives in Wren Street, Parkwood. We are invited for midday. We are wonderng whether we might make a short visit to your home before or after our meetings. The time is flexible. We will probably leave 2.30/3pm.
No definite ideas for Christmas. I think we will visit Ann and Andy for the evening of 25th and hopefully Jonathan and Jo in the afternoon. Two friends who have come to us on Boxing Day or 27th are going away. I have not been in touch with Matthew. You may like to visit or we could meet for a picnic.
On Monday a friend is coming to stay for the week. Will make a decision within a week re the Christmas break.
Please let us know about 30th.
With love, Grandma and Grandpa.
