Ideas Page (formerly the archive)

The ideas page

This used to be the “archives”, but now it is the “ideas page”. It is here for “blue sky thinking” and brainstorming.

I’m just going to dump stuff in here sometimes.

****
****

The ideas page was supposed to be an archive page, but it didn’t work out that way, so I converted it to an ideas page. Sometimes you have to scroll a bit, or read a bit to find what you want.

There is a lot of unrelated misc lower down, after the interesting ideas, there is a bit more stuff down the bottom of the page too, and I have another website elsewhere for ideas I can’t put here (it is found at howcommunicate.com).

Just as a heads up, I engage in mild obscurantism by camouflaging my ideas amongst generalised silliness and other nonsense.

Warning, this page isn’t edited all that much. It is just a cut and paste dump at the moment. Buyer beware, caveat emptor etc.

If you want to see my main discussion page, please tap this link: The Drop Box of Garbage v3, there is some stuff there worth reading. In particular, the first 10 minutes of it.

Basic Faraday Cube

Rename: box of honeycomb steel, to “basic faraday cube”.

It’s a box made of plywood measuring 50x50x50 full of mild steel pipe 50cm long, 4ish cm diameter, 1-2 thick. Although, the box could be bigger or smaller according to your needs. For example, it could be 40x40x80cm. It’s all about ease of handling. Also, the pipe could have more or less diameter. Such as 3cm diameter, up to 6cm diameter, or the thickness greater or lesser. Such as 1-3mm. There is some wiggle room, and the custom and building style would probably evolve over time. You could even pack a small amount of pipe into cardboard boxes, or fools so file boxes, so that you could stuff it into the wardrobes, kitchen drawers and cupboards and pantries on the ground floor.

***

Standardised faraday shipping containers and conversion of pre existing buildings

You can stack these basic faraday cubes into a 20ft shipping container to turn it into a “standardised faraday shipping container”. And you can also stuff them chock full into the ground floor (or maybe the bottom two floors) of an apartment block, and surround the apartment block with tons of standardised faraday shipping containers to create a hermitage.

Question: How big does it need to be? How much area to cover? I think you might want to cover a space of 60m by 60m. Including the ground floor of the apartment block. But it might take a few iterations of this style of construction to figure out what works. No guarantees.

Also, it would work just as well to convert something like a five story office building.

***

B side:

Edit, another idea for layout. Unsure as to how much spread or height to use for the faraday containers. No cubes inside the apartment though. It would be an experiment. Who knows if it works. In theory, you could envelope more than one apartment building.

Too tired, need to come back to it later. Will do better job later. Edit, see this one as symbolic representation. I’d want a different arrangement of containers irl. The principle works though.

You just live there. But also you might have a few classrooms/meeting rooms, an electronic library, space to study, lecture theatre, radio studio, and a small directional radio transmitter (and receiver), printing press (books and pamphlets), and a file server, and a small cafe/restaurant/bar for visitors. But mostly people just chill out and live, and love life. Still hooked up to utilities. Uhhh. 200-300 people live there full time. It’s mostly accommodation. And you have hundreds of visitors every day.

It becomes a cultural meme. Spreads mimetically.

Goes viral.

And evolves over time.

You can daisy chain them too, if you have adjacent apartments. So that you can walk from apartment building to apartment building without leaving the shielding.

Just as an aside: If you connect enough of them, then it could be turned into (or morph into) a refuge camp. Infill units (tents, cabins or camper vans) are also an option. What if we had a “sponsored refugee camp” movement? It’s just an idea. People could create refuge for themselves and others, and outsiders would sponsor them to stay safe in the refuge.

(New note: alternative, maybe spread a great number of them around the building, much more spread out. Like 100 metres by 100, or cover a space 200 by 200 sparsely spread. Unsure if tightly packed, or dense and close is the answer)

***

Just one apartment building of this size or type would be earth shatteringly important.

Just another pattern, or layout:

Ps: if you’re on the top floor, just use two ladders and a  long plank of wood as a trestle

Make standardised “faraday containers”

Recipe:

Use standard shipping containers 20ft by 8ft.

Recipe is here: 50 cm by 50 cm by 50 cm plywood boxes packed full of steel pipe, mild steel. 1-2 mm thickness, 50 cm long, 4 cm across. Keep weight down for the pipe, to make it cost effective. Pack them into 20 ft by 8 ft shipping containers. Padlock them shut, after an independent person audits and signs off on them.

That is a standardised faraday container.

Ps: thickness and diameter of pipe are an estimate.

PPS: out-rigger containers are just extra containers on the outskirts of the settlements, 20-30 metres out.

Hiding, hermits; refuge and shelter

Personally, I’d just like for there to be places to hide. Just from the satellites themselves. Or the “remote control electromagnetic nerve splicing” technology itself (from both satellites and cell towers).

And the best way to do that is with a social movement combined with new technologies.

I want people to be able to take refuge. Aka, to seek shelter, or to hide from this technology in the skies. We can live hidden? We can form the new “underground” of electromagnetically hidden people. We can have minds that are private again, and we can rebuild our personalities through a combination of education, conversation, reading and privacy. We can have normal friendship again.

I’m not a hive-mind guy. There are a lot of people out there who just aren’t hive-mind guys, or hive-mind girls.

Postscript

Note: In the aggregate, over time, culture changes. But never mind that for now. Get the technology operating first.

Note 2: But in the medium to long term, culture matters. As Drucker said, “Culture eats strategy for breakfast”.

Cultural norms

Perhaps life long education could become a cultural norm for everyone who joins this movement. Hermit movement? And that happens alongside formal education (which is also important). And we prioritise things like privacy, peace and quiet. We also prioritise things like eating together, and enjoying long conversations, preferably while walking. And also have special dinner clubs for close knit clubs, or special rules for after dinner conversations. We shelter other people if possible, within reason.

What is education? First you learn the basics, then once you’ve done that, you can use your own judgement as to what constitutes valuable lifelong education.

I’d suggest that it includes the formal state curriculums up until 17, and then maybe formal tertiary for one+ years.
But it also includes dedicated focussed reading all of your life (non fiction, and lots of it), consuming high quality lectures while taking notes (do short bursts, like 1-2 series every year, such as Amazon’s great courses or openYale), or learning new skills (piano or a language; dance or martial art) and replicating science experiments or engineering projects. Or replicating arts and crafts of the past (replication is better than being creative, for most people). Or improve your English language abilities (reading, writing or spoken language) and mathematical abilities And you never, ever stop learning.

As I always said, never let your schooling get in the way of your education. That is, don’t let formal schooling get in the way of actually learning (you do need both though).

But I am putting the cart before the horse!

What if?

More discussion on cultural norms. Maybe a little less vanity, that means less emphasis on aesthetics (exercise, diet, liposuction, fillers, anabolic steroids, spray tans, six packs, and bleach white American teeth). Maybe modesty in presentation is better? Vanity is bad, modesty is better. What if things like pride, greed, wrath, envy, lust, gluttony, and sloth were frowned upon. What if peer pressure and the overwhelming desire to conform were seen as bad things? What if excessive concern with social status was seen as morally bad? Especially the desire to look wealthy? What if we learned to “turn the other cheek” when insulted, instead of reacting with anger? What if forgiveness made a comeback? What if long term resentment was seen as pathetic? What if those with self esteem issues and resentment issues (both nations and individuals) improved themselves instead of grumbling and taking it out on those around them?

What if we took the initiative in regards to removing the habitually dishonest and persistently unreliable from our lives and the lives of those around us. If you are an educated and reasonable person, capable of taking the initiative in moral matters, then you might see the Gathas for inspiration and practical ideas. There might be technological, psychological and sociological solutions. See the “lemons” problem, and information asymmetry, as well as the concept of market failure. Perhaps policies in favour of undermining the habitually dishonest and deceptive might make sense, but not yet.

The Hermit Movement, Networked

Ummmm. You convert a big building to this faraday thing, 50 metres by 50 metres 10 stories high, an old building that you pick up cheap. Maybe an old office building. It is still connected to internet, electricity, water, sewerage and gas. It has a mail box, and a front desk for couriers. There is still rubbish pick up. You fill about 80% of the internal volume of this building up with 50x50x50cm boxes of honeycomb steel. Every types of space you can cram these boxes in there. It has maybe half a dozen decent apartments worth of space unfilled by boxes of honeycomb steel inside it. Or maybe two floors worth in total, out of ten. The usable space is spread out a bit over floors two to five, it consists of converted offices, and the office bathrooms and kitchens.

A group of you do it, and you are partially self funded, partially supported by a gofundme. You just want to hang out and do nothing much. So you move in.

It’s all good. But as a back up, you create a backup communications network with other hermitages in your town, by old copper phone line (for voice and computer network). And then you just live. Who knows what you do. It’s all up to you. People with good minds, and good hearts, and good thoughts can shelter themselves.

Good ideas for places to do this might include:

Kentucky, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois… or maybe Germany, or Spain/Italy/Greece (Barcelona, Madrid).

Why do you do it? Umm. Maybe you’re just not into the whole hive mind thing? You think it’s daft and horrible. You’re not a hive-mind guy/gal. You like freedom of conscience, and privacy of mind. And peace and quiet. And private, uninterrupted conversations with friends. And relationships private from, and separate from, the electronic busybodies and electromagnetic peeping tons of the world. As well as the ability to simply sleep at might, uninterrupted.

Ps: you could open a dairy/cafe/convenience store on the ground floor.

Idea: what if you have more than one location…

Hermit kingdom

Ten buildings in one area. Each of them has 80% of the space chock full of boxes of honey comb steel. Totally full of it. Completely full. Even bathrooms, kitchens, some stairwells, roof top full of garden sheds of it etc.

Each building is shielded and about 10-20% of each building remains as useful space, available for use and inhabitant. They’re wired up for power, gas, internet, water, sewerage. And still even have rubbish pick up and mail delivered.

Add in a copper phone network between each for phone and internet. Use encryption.

And now you have your networked hermit kingdom.

Beg for donations online.

Put it somewhere with affordable buildings, like in a blighted part of Kentucky, Michigan or something. Or in a place like Germany or France. Anywhere with spare buildings, and people who are willing to organise.

What you do with it, that’s up to you.

Any one of the following might be worth trying out.

Radio station, TV broadcast station, web hosting company, a refuge for harried intellectuals and other thinkers, or an engineering company, a publishing house, a printshop, or a new political, social or religious movement. A libertarian think tank, or a labour union headquarters. Whatever it is, it is distributed across ten buildings.

Keep it super simple. Perform only one function. You would be part of the hermit movement, but only one hermit kingdom among many.

****
****

Example:

Maybe 80% of the volume of the building is full of faraday “honeycomb steel” cubes. And a group of 200 student activists occupy the rest of the building. They pay for it all. Cash. Funded by respectable Australian Christian groups or eccentric USA libertarians via indigogo/crowdfunding. Ps: maybe 80% of the volume is overkill, and could spread it out a bit.

****
****

Addition to the idea below…

Reclaim conversation

Put a small tea room in one of the rooms of this building, and people can go there to buy a cup of tea, and enjoy a conversation. That’s it (no coffee, the machines are too noisy).

Some people bring a laptop, or a notebook and a pen. To sketch out ideas. Or just a book to read. It’s like a pretty basic tea room.

****
****

The Hermitage, and a place of refuge

Basically buy a large building 40 m by 40 m footprint, 6-7 stories high, maybe up to ten stories high. In a blighted area with cheap, unused buildings. Set aside a few apartments or other rooms inside for living. Just a few, deep in the middle.Fill all of the rest of the rooms up with boxes of honey comb steel. Floor to ceiling.

Become a hermit, along with your family. It is a hermitage. Don’t leave. Don’t engage with the outside world, other than to buy food and supplies.

Provide refuge to a few thinkers (writers, bloggers, engineers, scientists, inventors, innovators, philosophers, political theorists, historians and other intellectuals, or religious leaders). Perhaps for the good of civilisation some of these people need shelter. For a while at least. On the condition that they chill out and don’t engage.

You just wait it out.

Preserve things that need to be preserved.

**

The movement spreads. Hermitage plus refuge. It gives hope, and a place of refuge. And the technology and building methods can become cheaper and get better over time. Maybe if you have a few families in one area you might network their buildings together with ethernet cables.

The idea is scalable, using the readily available tools and materials of industrial capitalism.

Note 1: honey-comb steel box is a box that measures 50x50x50cm, made out plywood or similar and is filled with steel pipe. Mild steel, or similar. 50 cm long, 4cm wide and 1-2mm thick. It looks kind of like a honeycomb shape from the opened top of the box.

Note 2: Or you could provide shelter to other people, such as religious leaders, former sex workers, or former fae-oligarchs who want to quit.

Note 3: a good example of the type of building that one might use might be the Gary state bank building in Gary, Indiana, USA. For size/scale. Gary in Indiana is a blighted steel mill town with affordable buildings.

Note 4: the first time I did this, I would want to do the project with a building 10 stories high and every room chock full of boxes of “honey comb steel” (just to test it out). And then assuming it works, I would try to do more with less. Maybe a shorter building, or maybe only fill the rooms half full.

Note 5: FYI it should be strong enough shielding to make the whole building hidden, and also to have a dead zone extending about 10 metres in every direction around the building.

****
****

There’s no place like home

Where? Somewhere like Gary, Indiana. It's a little bit blighted, and so there might be perfectly good buildings going for a song. An eccentric millionaire, and his parents, spouse and children, all want a private existence. So he buys a big building, and fills it with boxes of steel pipe. Normal plywood boxes or "honeycomb steel".

They’re now untouchable by satellites at home.

And they live there. In an apartment. They're not activists. They live a normal life. With privacy. End of conversation, end of story.

The custom and habit spreads among some elements of the wealthy.

See the video 14 minutes in for a good example of the size and type of building you might get, like the bank building. For bonus points, it’s a steel mill town.

Discussion

Imagine….

Maybe 6 months from now, there are 273 shielded faraday settlements around the world, in 40 different countries. With anywhere between 12 and 500 people. About 150 of these settlements are less than 14 people. There are about 80 settlements of 100-200 people. And one or two of over 500 people.

A couple of them are trying to develop the faraday spinner, a few of them have terrestrial radio. Four of them are experimenting and designing with radio devices for disrupting the satellite's mesh network, and timing functions. A few are massive propaganda factories. About 80 are anchorites or hermitages. The people in them just want to shelter themselves. They are supported by donations. If you want a private conversation, you can go to have one, outside the system. A space outside the insane asylum. Once the satellite disruptors are ready, there are nation states ready to scale up their shielded locations. Their plan is to DDOS the satellites over head, to force repeated resets of their mesh network connections so that the satellites can't do anything while they're overhead. Some want to manufacture a faraday spinner suitable for home use...

Some settlements exist simply to give women a safe refuge from the system. So they can exit their life of being a sex worker.

***

Twelve months from now, there is a location with 5000 people in it. That have researched, designed, tested and manufactured the “at home faraday spinner” that gives you privacy at home. They have also improved the faraday shielding technology so that it cheaper and better (both active and passive). A few settlements are taking pot shots with primitive DDOS tools, but haven’t yet got the numbers, programming or hardware to make it stick. These settlements are networked together over the internet and radio, but also linked together by copper wires (telephone).

***

Hypothetical…

Twelve months from now, there are numerous “faraday shielded” settlements across the world, including Africa, south east Asia and the United States of America. They usually consist of a Church Hall (or mosque), a few anchorites (or equivalent), a pastor and his family. Most of these locations have terrestrial radio stations. They preach to the masses.  They are part of the local community.

Then someone builds a standardised device, with blueprints, that can ddos the satellites intranet… from the ground. It’s affordable, and easy to manufacture. Three subsaharan nations use referendums to ban musk/branson/bezos/USA LEO satellites from their spectrum space. These companies and the system ignore their complaints. The locals in places like Malawi, Lesotho and Tanzania, with visiting technical and scientific staff and funding from other nations, simply DDOS the satellites while they over overhead. The satellites are unharmed, but those nations are free of the satellite’s rays.

**

This custom and habit spreads to many other nations.

**

It spreads to some place like France. They build hundreds of small faraday shielded settlements around the country. Then they DDOS everything in the sky all day long every day to create some breathing room. Next they nationalise the telco industry. Shortly after that, they develop a space launch industry to start launching dozens of rockets every month full of titanium micro beads into space, aiming for the 500 - 2000 km shell around earth. And these rockets explode, littering space with titanium micro beads, these satellites which are flying around earth at 28000 km an hour collide with the micro beads, which create infinite pockmarks on the solar panels, rendering the satellites inoperable. The space litter then dissipates, but it has done its job. The DDOS attacks on the satellite’s mesh network means that the satellites can’t disrupt or disable the rockets.

They keep up the launches. They just keep doing it. Yes, there is political reaction from the system, but they do it anyway. Many other countries join in to support them, as they get it going.

Apartment Building Conversion

If you're wealthy, and you want a bit peace and quiet, you could buy a medium sized apartment building. It might be 5 floors high, and pretty squat broad/wide; not a small apartment building. Maybe 25 m by 50 m. For scale, maybe the size of a Khrushchevka (google it to get an idea of scale). Then move into one apartment on the ground floor. And fill every other room in the apartment, floor to ceiling, with plywood boxes full of steel pipe. Boxes: 50x50x50 plywood exterior, simple construction. Pipe is 50 cm long, 3-4 cm wide, 1-2mm thickness. You have peace and quiet at home. And privacy. But you still go out like normal, socialise, live your life. Whatever. That's it. It probably works. Expensive though.

It catches on.

And the idea goes viral among the wealthy.

Just for inspiration, to spark new ideas

All of this is just for inspiration. For ideas. Nothing works until it does. Maybe 20-30% chance that this stuff legitimately has legs. The faraday container stuff seems like the best idea.

Hermitage, Anchorites, a Manse and a Church Sanctuary

The Church Faraday settlement: it contains a church worship hall, foyer for tea/coffee, manse, church office, and a few “modern anchorites”.

Maybe a church sets up a location with a bunch of anchorites 12+ (living on site). They then have a main worship hall and foyer. They have a manse on site, for the assistant pastor and his spouse (it is part of a larger church). They have an office also. They do theology, and prepare materials for Bible studies and Sunday school on site. He also creates booklets of daily devotions and other teaching materials.  They can broadcast sermons or daily devotions by radio or internet. He leads Bible studies and small groups on site, along side his wife.

There is a regular Sunday church service. People are free to come to church, and leave as they wish.

The anchorites offer advice, conversation and direction. Just for clarity sake, they’re not totally locked in a chamber like the historical anchorites! Anchorite is more like a role.

This is only once the technology is good and ready. They use the same blueprints or plans as one of the patterns below. The one with the church hall. Umm. The houses, foyer, manse, dining rooms, and most of the buildings are probably just made out of shipping containers and tents. It’s pretty “rugged”.

It catches on, and there are hundreds across the world. The church is free to meet in peace, to enjoy good teaching and fellowship.

***

Next idea…

The Hermitage: a dozen guys, a faraday settlement, and a workshop, building faraday spinners (aka gap generators), for 20k apiece.

Conversation for inspiration

"Faraday polarization" refers to the Faraday effect, where a magnetic field causes the plane of polarization of linearly polarized light to rotate as it passes through a transparent material.

This occurs because the magnetic field influences the electrons in the material, causing the two circularly polarized components of the light to travel at slightly different speeds, which results in a net rotation of the linear polarization upon recombination. This effect is used in devices like Faraday isolators and circulators.

How it works
Decomposition of light: Linearly polarized light can be viewed as a combination of two circularly polarized waves with opposite helicity.
Magnetic field interaction: When a magnetic field is applied parallel to the direction of the light's travel, it causes the electrons in the material to move, which influences the speed of the two circularly polarized waves differently.

Rotation: This difference in speed between the left and right circularly polarized components leads to a phase shift. When the waves are recombined, the plane of linear polarization is rotated by an angle proportional to the magnetic field strength and the length of the material.

Reversing the effect: Reversing the direction of the magnetic field reverses the direction of the rotation.

Thought experiment:

The faraday spinner

Bundle of slender steel pipes two meters long, wrap copper wire around it, push current through it. Create a field of magnetic whatever stuff in the bundle of pipes. Put it on a turn table, or wheel, and gently spin it, to change the direction of the pipes and lines of magnetic force. It it might disrupt some of the polarisation.

Practical: put the turn table on its side, put it on an axis, with other ones like it just beside it. And it might disrupt enough of the rays and triangulation that the connection dissolves.

Realistically, one disc, two metres diameter, with multiple bundles of pipes wrapped in copper wire. Stack discs. Spin them. The whole house is disrupted. And you have privacy. Like a layered cake, 5 ft high. It creates a “gap” in the satellites surveillance.

It is very simple technology. Nice and robust. No fancy electronics, not computer chips, and so cannot easily be killed by satellite.

You design, research and manufacture it in a shielded faraday settlement. A place with 2000 people. This is just ideas/suggestions. The technology becomes readily available, at a price. It is a lucrative business idea. But it is just the slightest hint of a good idea.

Good ideas are spurred on through conversation.

Develop it in a faraday settlement according to the inventive methods of Edison “sweat method”. And manufacture it like Henry Ford. En masse, standardised, simple and good. They would need a location sheltered before you could mass manufacture them. Let alone design them!

It doesn’t create magnets. But it does create a “magnetic field” in the pipes. Just in case the em rays from the radio towers or satellites are polarised.

Update: by the way, these containers work kinda like chaff released as a countermeasure against radar guided missiles, like in a dogfight. Not really, but it is an analogy.

“In a dogfight, chaff is used to countermeasures radar-guided threats by deploying small, reflective strips, typically aluminum-coated glass fibers, that create a large radar echo to confuse and decoy incoming missiles.”

This is kinda like a combination of chaff and the "stealth shape" of a stealth jet or plane. Except not really.

Update:

Maybe something a little more like this. I might tidy it up later.

If I tried it, and it didn’t work, I’d fill it in with more spare standardised faraday containers. And maybe scatter a few more around the outside. That’s it.

The Campsite

An experiment

Maybe it might be possible to get something going with a relatively small number of standardised faraday containers.

If I were in a position to do so, I might try doing something like this, and then see if it works. If it doesn’t, then add more containers until it does, as an experiment. Pretty quickly, we might get to the point where it works. And then just camp out there for a bit. A couple of weeks, before letting someone else camp there.

A few weeks peace and quiet.

And a proof of concept.

Ps: once it gets going, you can always pitch tents around the place. Like a campsite.

****
****

In future, it might be possible to build these settlements with half as many faraday containers, and have them only half full of steel pipe, and twice as spread out. Maybe, but I would want the first few settlements to be over engineered, and packed in more closely to one another.

****
****

I’ll tidy it up later.

Fellowship hall idea

Perhaps call it the fellowship hall:

The early church (after Christ’s death, and after Paul started teaching):

This community shared all things in common, sold possessions to meet needs, met daily in the temple courts and their homes, and grew daily as more people were saved. They engaged in the breaking of bread. And they gathered daily. They were devoted to teaching and fellowship.

Do not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Hebrews 10:25

Maybe something like this works? Every day, the Christians (and associated non-hivemind) people meet in the fellowship hall to eat together. All 100 or so, for a shared lunch. Lunch is the main meal of the day. They break bread, and drink wine. And normal food like cheese, salad, vegetables, cold meats, roast chicken, anything. After that they enjoy conversation and fellowship. Then the tables are cleared away. And everybody goes about their business.

Maybe people have jobs working from home. Or otherwise have tasks they can do in the settlement.

In the evening there is music and teaching, followed by tea, coffee, and more conversation. They have electric guitars, drums, bass, and piano, and a good sound system. They have fancy lights, but not the excessive lighting and smoke machines. They have a projector for lyrics, and perhaps for educational and inspirational videos. At that point, everyone breaks into small groups for Bible study and conversation. And that’s it.

Then they go to their cabins to rest and socialise with loved ones and family. They enjoy supper. Maybe just bread, butter and canned soup. Everybody brushes their teeth at the tap down at the end of the row. And then go to bed in their cabins. Parents down stairs, kids in the container above. Maybe the kids stay up reading books by the light of their solar-power-battery lights. They fall asleep, and it’s a new day tomorrow.

They have animals, and gardens. They’re slightly sufficiency oriented. And so have a cow, grazing. And large gardens growing simple things like vegetables: radishes, cucumbers, silver beet and spinach. They have a few chickens as well, for eggs. They have plenty of rice/grain on hand. They get goods delivered once a fortnight.

They take in people who are broken hearted and hurting. Those who are terrified and unable to cope with living under the dominion of the satellites. They give them refuge. They also have a printer/photocopier, and produce pamphlets, to give to people.

They have regular morning teas to evangelise. Let people know that there is a better way to live. They also give people instructions on how to make these things. And take donations. The movement spreads.

They are solar powered, living on spring water from hills nearby, and long drop out houses.

Life is good.

They live hidden.

There are plenty of these little settlements around, of maybe 50-200 people.

They communicate with one another by pony express (letter), copper phone lines (rebuild the network, radio etc. eventually, they collectively (many, many settlements) get online. And back on the grid.

They evangelise by means of pamphlets, and visitors to their hall. Also, some of them eventually build a broadcast radio and TV station.

Fellowship and conversation seem to be the biggest and most beneficial use case. People would feel very different if they had a nice place to meet, hear new ideas, and have open conversations. Like a “special conversation zone”. It would change hearts and minds, and bring about a big shift in attitudes and collective consciousness.

Privacy of minds, and therefore you “own” your own conscience. And you can talk.

**

Other ideas:

If you want to build a university, then you can. You can have daily lectures in the fellowship hall. But also have daily religious teachings in the mornings. After all, most good universities have their roots in religious institutions; places such as Cambridge, Oxford, Princeton, Harvard and Yale.

If they need computers to work just LAN the cabins together, bring laptops from home.

Develop the idea further: Maybe a Christian university where people study in the evenings, teach and attend lectures in the afternoon, and write and prepare materials in the mornings. If the cabins have laptops, and are connected by LAN, then people can game as well as work. It is their home after all. Over time they could move from teaching and studying theology and humanities to ideology, marketing, advertising, science and technology. As well as art and music.

Other groups:

It works in with idea for different philosophies, religions or movements also. Muslims, trade unionists, or some sort of other religion might want it too.

Make standardised “faraday containers”

Shelter

These things give people shelter. You can seek refuge and shelter, and offer it to others. And they’ll get cheaper and cheaper, and better and better over time.

**

These settlements shelter you from totalitarianism. Can then use encrypted amateur radio to communicate with other settlements privately rebuild a sense of community, and sanity.

Rebuild your psyche.

It might take root and spread spread like a weed. Giving refuge to those who need refuge. Almost like refugee camps.

As an aside:

Communications: (or encrypted messages (paper/memory stick) sent by snail mail, pony express, or pigeon [no joke, seriously]). Can send the decryption key via pigeon post on a piece of paper, and then communicate via encrypted amateur radio (wording?).

You can use public and private crypto keys. For people who know what that means. And transfer data via radio waves, from computer to computer. Not just voice. The medium is very versatile.

Also, people will have access to the internet, and local area net works.

***

Their technology and my calculations uses a lot to do with areas, averages, computing power, moore’s laws, work arounds etc.

Building blocks are radio (em) waves with wave lengths in the vicinity of 20 metres. And constructive interference points between multiple waves.

But you have to triangulate a lot.

And eventually build up something akin to a stable TLS (transport layer security) “handshake” relationship with certain points in earth?

And if you can disrupt enough of the underlying building blocks, then they can’t establish the equivalent of a TLS “handshake” relationship.

But the disruption might occur over the range/area/averages of 20-50 metres, or even more.

They might try to reroute using extra computing power, but they can only do so much. There’s only so much computer power that exists. And also hard limits when it comes to the satellites intranetworked communications.

That is my “model” of it.

*

Disclaimer about epistemology: the map is not the territory, the word is not the thing, the model is not the same as the thing modelled (Alfred Korzybski). Or to steal from Zhuang Zhou, words are just a fish trap.

[Zhuangzi Quote: “A fish-trap is for catching fish; once you've ...

The "Zhuang Zhou fish trap" is a philosophical concept from the ancient Chinese Daoist philosopher Zhuangzi (Zhuang Zhou) that illustrates the relationship between a tool and its purpose, and the need to let go of the tool once the purpose is achieved.] - from google

Disclaimer, I have limited understanding of the science, and the terminology. But full understanding isn’t compulsory.

****

****
****

Just a few ideas, presented as is.

Other addition to the ideas:

The model might be that… There might be an “infinite” number of waves being fired at the earth, then reflected back. Just get in the way? The energy from the “waves” resolves into the thin pieces of metal somewhere along the way.

There are infinite “bounce backs”. Of waves. Sort of.

[[Disclaimer, Silly wording: they are in favour of the (spooky) relationship at a distance model, I am in favour of the waves are just bouncing back and forth model.]]

****
****

You would have to check out some of the other ideas.

The physics is wrong, by the way.
But it might be wrong in all the right ways.

***

Perhaps you have to surround it with extra “faraday” containers. But I think it might work.

You probably have to surround it with additional containers, dozens of them, spread out a bit, in a grid pattern. Please see some other ideas and examples on this page (some of it is hidden here and there…)

Faraday container = a standard shipping container full of plywood boxes 50 cm by 50 cm by 50 cm, themselves full of lightweight steel pipe 50 cm long, 4 cm diameter, metal 1-2 thick. Keep weight down for the pipe, to make it cost effective.

*

A lot of it is to do with “scale”, “spread”, and “distribution” of the metal.

*

Just an aside: Setting something like this up might be a little like noise and sound suppression? You just have to try stuff out until it works. You are trying to create “noise” and “disruption “ in their radio wave technology, to such an extent that their error correction mechanisms can’t work around it (interpolation, statistics, fancy mathematics and fancy statistics and enormously powerful computers, and multiple triangulation points).

****
****

Someone could make CAD drawings, an artists rendering, an infographic, an explanation and a set of instructions, and distribute them. It might go viral, and help people to test out this construction method.

You can take refuge, and offer refuge to others.

You can just live normally, and still exist in the system, and in the outside world. You’re just sheltered at home.

The end.

On the grid, probably

You can probably hook these up to the grid, at least once the trailblazers have done their thing, and the early adopters are well underway. The “main streamers” will be able to hook them up to the grid.

Imagine that you have connections for electricity, tap water, sewerage, internet (fibre to the settlement, ethernet to the units). Possibly you also have amateur radio, and a copper phoneline (as a backup). In the units you have bunk beds, desks, fridge/freezers, hot plates and slow cookers. You can order groceries once weekly. You have your laptop on the desk, and it is connected to the LAN by ethernet.

Expandability

And it is infinitely expandable.

That’s it. Easily replicable. You can do thousands of these settlements world wide, because it is made out of standardised and easily manufactured and shipped parts.

Three months from now you might have one of these settlements. Six months from now you have 50. Twelve months from now you have 500.

And as individual settlements, they might start out small (100 units, containing 80 people in total. And then end up having 600 units, containing 800 people total). They are highly expandable.

They might get nicer too. If the first settlement is a little bit rustic, the 20th might be really nice. You might have custom made prefab units, and prefab stairs. You Kurt have really nice prefab toilets, shower/bathrooms, prefab kitchens and dining rooms. You might include refrigeration containers as well. It is actually really easy to get nice stuff in a shipping container. You could build stuff like a nice cafe, for people to meet friends in. Or a restaurant or bar. Or a communal lounge. You can build anything. Long term at least.

And they might get cheaper too. We might find that there are cheaper and more efficient ways to put together standardised faraday shipping containers. And cheaper settlements, with less costly use of containers and steel. The science will be more easily understood. And the technology might even advance further than I can currently imagine, to be 10x more efficient, at a fraction of the cost (perhaps using em polarisation?).

***

Please take a look at the “not a hive-mind guy” letter, because this idea links in with that one. It provides the place of “peace and quiet” where you could put the “not a hive mind guy” thing together. View the “faraday cube” as a work in progress. And some of the ideas as “metaphorical”.

****
****

How big is the “satellite deadzone”? I don’t know, but I think it might extend up to 20-40 metres out from the central settlement.

What is the area of effect on these? I don't know. It could be 20-100 metres for the settlement, extending beyond its borders. and then it can be extended by an additional 40 metres in each direction just with more outrigger containers. We wont know until it is tried.

****
****

Umm. It is technology, construction and architecture, and so it might get better and cheaper, and faster to set up. These are prototypes and proof/s of concept. 18 months from now it might be possible to set up a whole town to house 5000 residents fairly easily and in a reliable and cost effective manner. But it will take time for the technology to be fully understood.

The containers themselves might get cheaper and better.

****
****

What could you put there? Maybe (along with houses) you could have the local town hall. It can be used for church meetings, union meetings, yoga class meetings and transcendental meditation, local political party chapter meetings, local political speeches, local networking events (like Christian Women in business groups, and men's business breakfasts). Kind of like local church halls are already used for these (yes, New Zealand Christian churches rent out space to yoga classes). It could also be used for university lectures, and other lectures and talks. You just rent the hall to any group who needs it!

Or whatever.

****

The pictures and diagrams are very messy, and the scale is all wrong. I might do a better job sometime.

I’m in pain, and the physical issues I have are impairing my mental and cognitive abilities. It’s really difficult.

You do ten of these things (see the picture with 4 containers). Two standardised “faraday containers” on the left, and two open fronted containers on the right. And you do them 20 containers across (twenty containers wide, 160 feet wide, 49 metres wide), and maybe five rows of it (140 feet in total, including clearance of 10 feet between rows - that is 43 metres length). See the other picture.

And a few out-rigger containers; maybe about 20 metres out from the edges. It should be okay. Maybe a “mini monolith” of twelve containers.

PS: the outriggers might dramatically increase the range of these settlements.

PPS: you remove the doors because you want better ventilation at night (aka a window), a porch and eaves (for rain, and ease of getting up by ladder). And a nice door that locks from the inside. And to not be locked in by the containers doors from the outside.

PPPs: optimisation of spread and density of material might come later in the game. I.e. we might be able to make it cheaper.

Maybe add a church hall, aka general meeting hall. Meeting hall doubles as a space for tables, chairs and tea/cakes throughout the week. And/or maybe a weekly meal. I prefer the version with the two accommodation containers on top of one another, and the containers beside them being “standardised faraday containers”.

Notes: this structure is expandable. Just shift the outrigger containers out of the way on the west side, and add another block of 5 rows. Leave a bit of a gap though, enough to get cars through. Can expand north and south as well. You could upgrade it from 100 units to 200, 300 or 400 containers.

Note 2: cost of construction will drop over time, as the technology and science is understood better (assuming it works at all).

Scale for the maps above. One square = 4 ft, one mm = 2ft. Each container is 8 by 20. We standardise on the 20 ft model.

Church planting, as a model

For the trail blazers:

This is a sensible use case for this technology, to popularise it.

Once the trail blazers have made one hundred settlements, and the early adopters are moving into the market.

Use case: small town USA, a church of 200 members, builds a small settlement consisting of 100 faraday houses that is 5 rows of 20 habitable cabin units. And a small church hall. Some of them move in. Just 30-40.

They are hidden (shielded) now.

They form a new church, it is a church plant. They start inviting all and sundry to join them. They start an Acts 2 church. Sharing resources, teaching daily, they eat together,

Devotion to teaching and fellowship, Generosity and sharing, Community, eating together. They contribute resources. They invited many new members to join. They grow rapidly. New members live on site. They have a church hall for themselves, and for others to use. They invite the poor (only those who are sober and drug free), the weary, the widow the orphan, refugees (of the new electronic oppression), the dispossessed, enslaved women, forced to perform the same function as sex workers etc. (digression: many church led supported and rescued prostitutes and other sex workers, and people sold into sex slavery!!! They used to do their best to help “fallen women”, and prostitutes. In multiple eras of history. Women in particular flocked to the church during the Roman Empire, in the early days of Christianity, before it was co-opted by the system.) People of all nations, tongues, background supported. They support the poor and needy directly. It is like an Acts 2 church.

Anyone who wants a conversation, or a place to meet, or a space for private discussion, can find it there. They also have a radio broadcast facility.

If you want a private place to meet a friend, you can find it here.

They expand the number of cabins on the fly.

The settlement expands to be 500 members large.

They then create more church plants in the area. They are linked together with copper phone lines for stable internet and phone line connections. One church planting begets many others. Sometimes.

***

This helps to popularise my technology.

*

Edit: random idea, just an idea, it might appeal to some.

And it creates a reservoir of civilised, moral behaviour. Kinda like a seed bank for basic decency, or morality, or civilised behaviour? Or to simply preserve the culture and knowledge base of society?

**

You could have a trades hall, or a town hall, instead of a church hall. Likewise yoga + meditation studio or a Buddhist meditation space. Or large dining room. Just a small simple building. Yoga hippies are a really good demographic and/or market opportunity.

The Underground Church

Idea:

People are starting “The underground church”, and it is hidden from satellite view

*

Should it be Evangelical, or missional?

Either:

Evangelical: go into all the world.. let them know they can worship in peace, spread the technology
Or
Missional: an Acts 2 church, generosity and serving the poor. Not just poor in money, but poor in spirit, education, and good relationships.

Either way, bind up the broken hearted: Isaiah 61:1 etc

“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.”

Isaiah 61:1

Expansion packs;

Idea for an expansion pack for the block of nine apartments:

Expansion pack for the anchor apartment block.

Instructions:

Just get a 20 ft faraday container. See else where for recipe.

Put it up nice and close to the main apartment block of 9 units/apartments. Maintain a four foot clearance at least (for safety). Always maintain clearance ways, for evacuation and fire etc.

And then build any kind of house you want on top of it. The whole of your house always has to be on top of a “faraday container”. And you have to cluster into the main unit closely. No one may build anything without using a faraday container as their foundation. For best results, use two 20ft faraday containers as your foundations (bolted and welded together). And build a standard wooden and corrugated iron house on top of it.

Or put two of the “office container units” from a place called “containify” on top of it, and a retractable ships ladder to the front door (you can lift the ladder up at night).

If mainstream NZ/AUS/USA, it’s mains water and power.

If “rugged”, or less wealthy, the water tank goes on the roof (or else’s down), along with solar panels.

***

Best example: get two 20ft “faraday containers”, put them size by side, weld them together. And build your house on top of that, out of whatever you want (wood, corrugated iron, anything). The only rules are that you MUST have proper faraday containers as the foundations for your house, and you must place the new house as closely to the “anchor development of nine units”.

Have a ships ladder, or whatever, to get in and out. If dangerous location, make the ladder retractable.

*

I am unsure if to make this for slums or not. Probably the construction methods for the “anchor development” are too untested and dangerous. You need big cranes?

***

A good place to do it might be somewhere like Florida:

Christian groups, political groups, para-church organisations, or whatever. Or hippies.

“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”

They could do a really good job of testing it out, and improving the technology. I’m not asking them. But it is untested, and needs a good trials. Florida could be a good design laboratory for improving the ideas….

Make standardised “faraday containers”

Recipe:

Use standard shipping containers 20ft by 20ft.

Recipe is here: 50cm by 50 cm by 50cm plywood boxes packed full of steel pipe, mild steel. 1-2 mm thickness, 50 cm long, 4 cm across. Pack them into 20 ft containers. Padlock them shut, after an independent person signs off on them.

That is a standardised faraday container.

****
****

Make houses and a neighbourhood:

Basic house:

Weld two together side by side.
Use them as foundations for your home.
Build your home out of anything you like. Wood, corrugated iron roof, building paper, waterproof cladding.

Put stairs or a ladder up to the front door.

The only rules are:

1. Your houses foundations must be made out of standardised faraday containers
2. You have to pack the houses in tightly and closely. As tightly as possible, without causing safety issues. I.e. you have to allow enough space for fire escapes etc.

*

3. Once you achieve critical mass, the satellites lose connection with your nervous system.
4. It can help to have an anchor unit in the neighbourhood development

****
****

Design instructions for the anchor unit:

Put twelve standardised faraday containers in a square on the ground, weld them firmly together, using extra steel girders top and bottom. And then place another 12 standardised containers on top, welding them firmly together. Both to one another, and to the standardised faraday containers below. 24 standardised faraday containers in total, two stories high. Then build stairs up the side, or out a ladder up. Build your house/s on top of the anchor unit.

Now surround it with basic houses on standardised faraday container foundations.

Make everything stable and safe.

Ummmm. If you build something like this, the satellite dead zone might extend up to 20 metres away from the settlement. And you can extend the dead zone at will just by sprinkling a few extra standardised faraday containers around the place. Or concentric circles of scattered standardised faraday shipping containers. Or you can just add more houses. Overtime the satellites find that they just don’t have the spare computing power to cope with you.

Maybe you can extend it out to 50 metres just with some dozens of extra shipping containers around the perimeter.

***

Note: maybe have more than one anchor unit in a settlement?

Note 2: disclaimer, I am spitballing designs for people to use if they so desire. But they have to have basic skill and ability in the area of construction, as well as common sense. If common sense is absent, they probably have to quit.

Note 3:

Ummmmm. Asinine conversation incoming, you can just do basic commonsense construction or whatever. Get a normal carpenter in. I’m assuming the trail blazers for this technology all have a structural engineer, a physicist and an experienced builder (carpentry) and an experienced welder in their team. (Like a church in NZ or wherever.)]

[For the floor/foundations of the house, you have to build a normal floor type of construction, or whatever. The supporting strength of the containers are in the corners and to a lesser extent the edges. Just weld girders to those. Or do wood 4 by 4s. And then lay wooden beams across it. And then lay floor boards or whatever. And then just use standard box style wooden framing with 2x4 wooden frames, and timber connectors or whatever. Use wooden trusses for the ceiling. Use building paper l, and then whatever cladding you want. Use corrugated iron or whatever you want for the roof. Just use common sense. The roof of the shipping container has limited strength. The strength is the corners. You probably need to run some sturdy I beam girders around the edges of each crate, at the top (in a square), and weld them in firmly, before doing the wood part. Ummm. Don’t do fancy electrical or any indoor plumbing. Umm. You need at least one good carpenter for this. And one genuinely good structural guy, and a good welder. Or whatever.] just make sure you have semi competent construction dudes or whatever, or wait until the trail blazers and early adopters are done.

Umm. Or you could lay very sturdy, very large wooden beams across the horizontal edges of each containers, then lay long thick wooden beams length wise on top of them, before doing floor boards. You need men with experience in construction.

****
****
New note:

One:

I like the faraday apartment block approach. As your anchor development, with additional faraday containers around it. It is tough construction, but worth it.

1. Apartment block, with additional containers for support.

***

Two: monolith and houses

The second type is to build a faraday monolith (24 containers, welded together) and surround it with as many Rutherford houses packed in as tightly as you can until you reach critical mass.

A Rutherford house consists of two faraday containers side by side, welded together for the base. Then you place a dwelling on top. Any dwelling. Careful though, the roof of the container is weak, and all (most) of the strength of the container is in the corners. Either you need to use containers on top for your dwelling (like the office unit from containify or the cabin unit from detox) or build an excellent and sturdy floor before putting up a shack or tent.

Don’t even bother climbing on top of the monolith, and if you do, just use the top of it as a deck (simple wooden decking). It might be a little unsuitable for a lot of stuff. Umm. The top deck might be useful for things like amateur radio broadcasting equipment, water tanks/towers, or solar panels. Probably best for people not to live up there.

Easier to just build outwards with small low rise “Rutherford houses (or call them faraday houses)” instead of sitting on the monolith directly.

I might write it up later.

I need to replace the image of the settlement above later on. Make a new model for it.

They might try to reroute using extra computing power, but they can only do so much. There’s only so much computer power that exists. And also hard limits when it comes to the satellites intranetworked communications.

That is my “model” of it.

Of waves. Sort of.

****

Edit: random idea, just an idea, it might appeal to some.

And it creates a reservoir of civilised, moral behaviour. Kinda like a seed bank for basic decency, or morality, or civilised behaviour? Or to simply preserve the culture and knowledge base of society?

// this is totally not finished

Expansion packs;

****

You have electricity, tap water, sewerage connections, internet (fibre to the settlement, Ethernet to the units). Possibly you also have amateur radio, and a copper phoneline (as a backup). In the units you have bunk beds, fridge/freezers, hot plates and slow cookers. You can order groceries.

And it is infinitely expandable.

That’s it. Easily replicable. You can do thousands of these settlements world wide, because it is made out of standardised and easily manufacturers and shipped parts.

The end.

Update about “satellite deadzone” above. It ought extend 20-40 metres out from the central settlement.

****
****

A fresh idea: build one faraday monolith (or one Rutherford monolith), and then three rows of flats, like these (built on top of standardised shipping containers. Maybe another three in the other side of the monolith. A total of six rows of flats, And then as many faraday houses as possible. Hook them all up to electricity, internet (both fibre and Ethernet, lan and IP), fresh water, and sewerage line. You can then stay for the long(ish) term. For best results, keep the main settlement tight. Sprinkle some outrigger faraday shipping containers about. Use some standard scaffolding to support the walkways, and use ordinary galvanised steel or something for the walkways. Just inspiration.

You can always expand with as many rows of flats as you want. With the occasional additional monolith. Anyone who wants to build a new row of flats can self fund it. [You can have a few spare ground floor ablution blocks and ground floor units. Just not many, and always make up for it with a spare faraday container stack elsewhere just stack two somewhere on the perimeter to make up for it.]

***

****
****

One more additional idea:

Imagine: A row of ten of these. Perhaps with a small wooden front deck/walkway along the front of the rows ten, to walk on between units.

And then multiply that by ten.

Perhaps skip the walkway in the first version.

PS: goods, as well as injured or elderly people, can still get up on a scissor lift… and you do need a spare scissor lift on site for furniture. Cranes and forklifts are on site  too.

*

Future proofing:

Note: If you use containers with doors on the front and back, then you can open the back end up when it’s sunny.

Note two: if you want more space to socialise and walk between the units, just put a long, broad wooden deck in front of your row of ten containers. It is good for socialising, and can be used as a walkway also. Maybe it runs 80 ft long, and 10ft wide. It is your place to socialise and get from place to place. It is the sort of sturdy wooden deck you find attached to New Zealand homes (I don’t know what type of decks the rest of the world likes, we just use treated pine, in large quantities). Stairs and/or ramp access. That is a “stretch” goal though.

Note three: I would still build a faraday monolith somewhere in the settlement, just in case. Even if it is a small one. I don’t know how much material you need for this situation. And you probably need some “spread” as well, but that is implied automatically be putting in multiple rows of housing (you probably don’t need ten rows though, tbh lol).

Note for potential rule: if these settlements expand from 50 people to 5000, then…. For every 8ft by 20ft container you want to live in or use for work/life/commerce, you have to purchase a faraday shipping container somewhere on the ground. Unless you have a different business model for your settlement. No free loaders? Maybe??

Today:

If I were to do it, I would build a (small?) monolith, and several rows (between 4 and 10) of ten units stacked on one standardised faraday container each (like the picture just above.

I would have a handful of “outrigger containers” scattered about, and a couple of units on the ground floor, particularly for a dining area/kitchen or toilet, or for someone with a broken ankle or whatever. Or just do rows of “faraday houses”. Either way works. I’d skip building a deck for access (good+people)(and socialising) though, at least for the first version.

It is for proof of concept, a prototype, and so I might over engineer it a bit…

****

Umm. It is technology, and so it might get better and cheaper, and faster to set up. These are prototypes and proof/s of concept. 18 months from now it might be possible to set up a whole town to house 5000 residents fairly easily and in a reliable and cost effective manner. But it will take time for the technology to be fully understood.

****
****

Edit/update:

What is the area of effect on these? I don't know. It could be 20-100 metres for the settlement, extending beyond its borders. and then it can be extended by an additional 40 metres in each direction just with more outrigger containers. We wont know until it is tried.

What could you put there? Maybe (along with houses) you could have the local town hall. It can be used for church meetings, union meetings, buddhist meetings, local political party chapter meetings, local political speeches, local networking events (like Christian Women in business groups, and men's business breakfasts). Kind of like local church halls are already used for these (yes, New Zealand Christian churches rent out space to Buddhist meditation groups). You just rent the hall to any group who needs it!

Or whatever.

Very messy, and the scale is all wrong. I might do a better job tomorrow.

I’m in pain, and the physical issues I have are impairing my mental and cognitive abilities. It’s really difficult.

You do ten of these across (twenty containers wide, 160 feet wide, 49 metres wide), and maybe five rows of it (140 feet in total, including clearance of 10 feet between rows - that is 43 metres length).

And a few out-rigger containers; maybe about 20 metres out from the edges. It should be okay. Maybe a “mini monolith” of twelve containers.

One square = 4 ft, one mm = 2ft. Each container is 8 by 20.

Inspiration

Inspiration for other styles and types of containers you can use. Shipping containers are cool like that. You can mix and march whatever you want. It’s like pick and mix for prefab units, and everything is standardised. It’s amazing.

FYI, this is a different idea below, and a slightly older one. You should read it to further understand my ideas. Also, there is more stuff later in the page. I’m sorry that my page is so messy. But it’s hard to keep everything tidy.

Plateau idea

The Plateau, aka the platform

The shipping container plateau construction style, or motte and bailey, or the platform

I don't know if it works, or is cost effective. Caveat emptor etc.

20-30% chance this works properly. Is a good and sensible idea.

It is about scale and distribution.

***

First option, you just build the platform. And it is yours, and I am totally agnostic about how it is used.

Maybe you put cabins on top of it (you use office containers, but call them cabins. The granny flats are for inspiration, as are the sleep outs.).

Other ideas below…

Ps: I think the rv version is better

“Business model”

Once you put it up, just let it be like a “commons”.

People bring their own ladders and boards of wood (19 ft by 8 ft). And their own tents or container homes.

They have container homes and a deck.

Umm. You can even put a couch on top of the containers or on your deck. Like a bogan.

*

Or build it by means of “social entrepreneurship” at a university. Student activists issue shares, collect money from the other students, build the platform, with prefab container homes and decks on top. Then resell it to other people. Like a housing development. They might be able to fit about 300 container homes on top, with decks and walkways.

**

Or gofundme, raise money, sell options.

Contribute 10000 up front, and you have the option to purchase a container home with deck as part of your share in the whole block when the whole project is done, for 50k.

***

Other cool items to put on top:

Tiny container home - maybe 200 of these
Office containers - maybe 100 of these
Container home, second example
BBQ, several

Some prefab bathrooms off to the side, maybe diesel generators off to the side also. Plug it into fibre internet. Run ethernet to each house.

This is just to test out proof of concept.

It it works…

5 years from now there are 1000 permanent settlements all around the world? People just take the initiative and build them.

****
****

If you can manufacture a product once, you can manufacture it 1000 times. That’s how capitalism works.

*

There are 196 countries in the world, where things can be manufactured. You do the math lol.

****

Maybe a dozen dudes on an oil rig or a navy vessel start a property development syndicate. Build one, sell shares, and make a boat load of money. They do it all from home base without stepping foot on dry land.

Perhaps they fight for the dispossessed?

*

The biggest, best and first step is to unlock the  knowledge base that has been locked down, through the abolition of patent and copyright right law.

An end to intellectual property.

Intellectual property isn’t property.
Knowledge wants to be free.

*

Perhaps they offer refuge to those who need it. After finding it for themselves and their loved ones.

*

And they reclaim their voices?
And become a voice for the voiceless.

In person they begin to speak again, to one another.

And they publish podcasts, via the internet (better than radio). Including interview podcasts. I.e. a voice for the voiceless.

Maybe they have 30 podcast recording studios and podcast hosting in the mini town. Podcasts are basically radio shows delivered via the internet.

Podcast studios, podcast hosting.and a radio station. And offering refuge. 1000 towns on a plateau world wide.

People who want to speak can reclaim their voice. They can visit the town to stay in it for a week. They can record a podcast interview and have it stored on a server in the town. Where it can be downloaded by people outside.

And terrestrial radio station and transmitter. So people can also broadcast the prerecorded podcasts over and over again by radio to the nearby.

Also, people can make songs, videos and artwork and poems. Record them, and have them hosted locally. It is clever. They also host audio content in archive, they keep it available long term.

*

And by speaking and hearing one another speak, they reclaim their minds. Because the mind is often a function of the voice. Or an emergent property related to the use of one’s own voice. Or more properly the use of one’s own voice in connection with face to face conversation.

I think it is face and voice in conversation that does it, using language.

Or maybe you just create a tent city on top of it.
Or a plywood and corrugated iron shanty.

I think that in the end, the best use case for it is: churches and church groups who provide refuge and have radio stations (and/or podcasts). Keep it super simple. Some people live on site.

As the industry improves, plenty of other people copy it.

Or another spitballed silly idea ahahaha. Just for fun.

Fill shipping containers (20ft long) with plywood boxes full of very lightweight steel pipes (boxes maybe 1m3, or perhaps 40cm by 40cm by 60cm. Steel pipe maybe 4cm diameter, or up to 7cm diameter, thickness between 0.5mm to 1.0mm thick). Maybe you don’t have to fill the whole container all the way up. I don’t know.

Place 100 of these containers in a grid pattern.

Park caravans or camper vans beside them. Or just pitch tents.

Now it should be shielded. I hope.

Note: Pack them in fairly tight, but don’t be overly dogmatic about exact measurements. Be sure to keep the main walkways clear.

(Drive the vehicles in from the side. FIFO. But if caravans, can maybe use a quad bike to help with situating them. It should be easy to figure out. If it is all vehicles and no tents. It becomes much easier.)

*

Power and internet

Attach wooden poles to the sides of the shipping containers (2 by 4, with cross beams) to string power cables and/or internet cables (standard Ethernet) above the caravans, campervans, vans, tents, or other vehicles or dwellings. You pull a spare Ethernet or waterproof cable from the pole beside your unit.

***

Amenities

Off to one or the other side. I gave vague examples. You need water taps and ports-loos. And a food store etc. and laundry and showers. Dry food storage, and a cold storage container off to the side. General goods sold at the store. It is on the grid for electricity and internet. But water is harder. I think you can pipe in water from a supply, rural or town, idk. But sewerage is more challenging, storm water even more so. Maybe you need special drainage area for dishes, and washing things. If you let stuff soak into the soil, you will end up with drainage issues (I.e. issues with mud - have you even been to a music festival for a few days? Just imagine it after a month!).

Hygiene and cleanliness and disease would be pretty significant issues packed in there that tightly long term. And dealing with waste water is a massive issue. Waste management (food scraps or other rubbish) is another area to pay attention to.

*

It might just be a prototype. People just live there, and work from home. Or live off of savings. Large numbers of people adopt this as a long term model for living. 1-2% of people who just want privacy? And digital nomads, or work from home types? The idea still needs work.

Just an idea. What if a lot of people just wanted to live quietly and work and relax? Or what if they want to opt out and be left alone.

****
****

It is an innovative design. I am agnostic about who could or would use it.

Please note: this innovative design/technology is untested. I don’t know if it works. And even if it does, the layout would definitely need tweaking. Perhaps it could be spaced out a bit more, to allow more space for the vehicles. Maybe 1-2 feet extra clearance each side.

Random idea, faraday shielded anchorites? Shielded and supported by the public?

Hypothetical silly idea

Gaming

Just want to relax and game? Find a parking space in one of these faraday shielded settlements.

Idk. Get an old pc you have laying about, set it up as a server: host an mirc server/chatroom, and start an old phpbb forum, and do file sharing. Have mirrors of comedy podcasts or useful tech resources. Host a half life one server, play cs 1.3, and day of defeat, chat with your friends over the microphone/headset. Host a vent channel. You have good, fast, reliable internet after all. Have fun gaming or chatting with your friends, just like the old days. You are in an expensive, comfortable, air conditioned RV (aka camper-van) in a "faraday sheltered" settlement, and all of your old friends are in other "faraday sheltered" settlements across the country.

You have privacy and safety, and can just relax. You can just game, think whatever you want, unobserved and undisturbed. You can just game.

Gamers check out of society

Or video gamers living under the philosophy of Epicurus.

Live hidden. Reduce suffering, avoid massive harm, enjoy friendship, simple food and drink. Maybe poetry, music and conversation. But also video games, tea (cats). Living in an invisibility cloak (aka faraday shielded) settlement.

Maybe the first dozen or two dozen settlements are vans and containers. And then the next ones are simple rudimentary wooden houses. On the “shotgun shack” model of construction. Maybe not perfect. But it’ll do.

People upgrade to wooden houses instead of campervans and tents.

*

Epicurus

Ataraxia: life satisfaction that comes from of freedom from pain and suffering. Equanimity. Peace.

_a state of serene calmness_

Plus the fun/enjoyment of playing genuinely skill based (mildly) competitive gaming. Similar to sport, but no injuries!

Is that not perhaps a worthwhile meaningful life?

****

By the way, once proof of concept has been achieved, it might be possible to try out different layouts and densities.

But it really is just an idea, untested and unproven. It is never been shown to work, and it may prove to be nothing more than the kernel of a better idea. Don’t get your hopes up too much. The first attempt at something like this might not fully succeed.

It would (and will) be a scientific experiment the first few times that it is done.

Underpromise, over deliver, after all?

// this is a boring segment, not well put together

Who could use this (or similar models) for design?

Maybe data entry people, from home call centre operators, at home sales, accounting technicians, coders, work from home people, retirees, gamers, or maybe trust fund kids who don’t have to work and just want to chill! Or perhaps knowledge workers who need their own mind. Or financial traders. Or political activists (legitimate work). Amish. Or academics who want freedom of thought. Or hard core, die hard libertarians. Or bureaucrats working for the dia, or ministry for trade staff, or cooperate types working for rio Tinto, shell oil, or bp, or admin staff in a uniformed services? Or intelligence types? Or police? Or CCP lower downs, or Vietnamese party lower downs, or politically active persons in Iran (eg revolutionary guard), or politically active persons in Venezuela. Now of course sometimes the people need something cheaper than a super expensive RV, like a van, but whatever. Muslims in Morocco or Tunisia or Egypt or Libya. Once tested, broken countries like Zimbabwe or South Africa. Finally, intentionally planned religious communities. Such as Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, Yoga/hippie, Epicurus or whatever. Or writers writers and artists. Or educationalists from a permaculture or organic background. Or Chinese dissidents. Or Gypsy/roma. Or Maori groups, or indigenous South American groups. Or Amish, or I don’t know, Hasidic lol.

*

Who else could use it?

Not advocating for it…
More: rogue factions of the shadow oligarchy. Sex communists, old left. Trade unions. Trade union syndicates. Communist towns. Worker owned cooperatives. New religious movements (aka cults), militant feminists, rogue corporations and corporate factions in tech or extraction industries. Radical socialist groups in weird parts of the world. Drugs gangs, hippie communes. Doomsday cults. Morman groups. Hatha yoga weirdos. Librarians and researchers. Random workers in xyz field (engineers, scientists, lawyers) who want to do pretty much whatever and be unharnessed. Broadcasters in tv, radio. Podcasters. Stray capitalist refugees and investors seeking refuge. Ethnic gangs or other dangerous/awful people could possibly build them to hide from the system! All sorts. Criminals and politicians alike could use them. Parachurch organisations, Bible schools, Christian publishers, ideology creation factories of a Christian variety, people who create materials that can create Christian world view. Libertarian writers and economics writers. Bloggers. Gamers who want t game without observation or interruption. People who just want to write in their diary alone. People who are too traumatised and stressed out to live in the outside world  and just want to check out or opt out. Researchers and propagandists.

Lots of people could use it. By the way, I sometimes say bombastic or silly things just because I want people to think about something or another. To encourage creative thought.

// totally new idea, different style and layout.

Another random idea: wooden houses and double stacked containers.

Ummmmm. Make a whole neighbourhood of these. Side by side. Row after row… a neighbourhood that is 400 ft by 400 ft. Maybe it works? The shipping containers are stacked two high. Seek shelter lol.

Ablution blocks at the end of the row. Solar panels on the roof for electricity and lighting. Pot belly wood stoves for heating, bbq or gas for cooking. Kerosene lamps for additional backup lighting.

It is just a random idea.

I just had to get it out of my head.

Hmm. 200 dwellings, ish. Two bedrooms each. 800  inhabitants.

Iran, Venezuela idk. For normal people. Caribbean.

If Venezuela can become a strong and functioning nation, including oil exporting, then China has more security for oil imports… and is less reliant on the globalist system or the oil cartels. And maybe the globalist puppets in charge of China retire or reform..? And China can function as an actual socialist state for once?

Or shipping containers full of plywood boxes chock full of lightweight steel pipe. Interspersed into the construction and design of a shanty town. Like in Dhaka or something. Idk. Surrounded by plywood and corrugated iron shanties.

And the whole shanty town is under the new invisibility cloak.

And maybe wealthier people have to visit the shanty just to get shelter from the bullshit. Rent an office or a room lol?

Maybe call the plywood boxes full of steel pipe “honey comb steel boxes”.

(Once the math is done).

Note: or a USA homeless encampment?

Once people can do it, it spreads like wildfire. And once a lot of people do it, it cannot be stopped so easily. Safety in numbers after all. And then they can offer refuge. And once people can offer refuge, everything changes.

***

Or maybe a military in a Muslim country uses this tech to create working spaces for their admin staff, intelligence staff or to work without being observed by Americans. 100 shipping containers full of “honey comb steel boxes”. And a simple, adorable caravan or cabin parked beside each one for staff to work inside. All wired up to electricity etc, nice and normal. They pioneer it, they are the trail blazers. And once it works, normal people copy it around the world.

*

Or one of those Pashtun zones in Pakistan. I don’t really understand them though lol. People like Tribal Peoples of the North-Western Frontier Province (NWFP). I’m genuinely ignorant on this one though.

***

Perhaps reduces/weakens the USA hegemony by granting poorer countries privacy.

***

Product: 1m3 plywood box full of lightweight steel pipe that is 1 metre long, 7 cm across, and 1 mm thick.

Second product: a shipping container full of these boxes.

This is just inspiration. Maybe there are better ways to do it.

Edit: Maybe a better size diameter for the pipe is 4cm diameter, 40 cm long, 1 mm thick. And the size for the box is 40 cm height, 40cm width, 60cm long. It might just be easier to handle. But the exact rules of how to do it night be all up in the air.

Edit: one more idea. Here is an idea of how to make easy plywood boxes. You just cut the panels, drill holes in the panels not too far from the edge, 2 cm, and then stitch them together with string or cord, and then you cover over the edges with duct tape. It’s easy if you know how. But there are plenty of other ways to do it.

****
****

New product idea

The ultimate product is perhaps a plywood box measuring 40x40x60cm. It has handles in the side. It is a well polished product. It contains a large number of slender lightweight steel pipes, firmly welded together.

You can purchase large quantities of these boxes very cheaply, at maybe $10-20 apiece. They are mass produced. They are delivered in large quantities.

And then you take a city block of high rise apartments measuring 100m by 200m and the adjacent on the horizontal side. And you fill 10-20% of the apartments floor to ceiling with these boxes.

And then the whole two city blocks are shielded and cloaked.

Unknown if it works. Untested.

Ps: probably need a proof of concept in a desert or plains first. The social organisation problem of shielding apartment blocks might be difficult. And the science and engineering aren’t airtight in the slightest!

PPS: this is the “killer app”. It is rolled out in 1000s of locations in 100s of cities. Factories exist all over the world, and blueprints and mathematically calculated “tables of density” explaining how many boxes you need per block exist. Eventually you have 10000 locations worldwide. The surveillance capacity of the system is broken, and the people no longer exist within the frame of reference of the system.  // I have changed my mind, this is no longer the “killer app”, it is just blue sky thinking. Ignore it lol.

More spitballing…

Maybe the best and most efficient one is 200 shipping containers over the space of one square kilometre (ie, a spread out a bunch more). But we haven’t invented the technology yet. 10% chance it can be done and _made economic_. Maybe trial and error will show us the way?

Did Edison invent the lightbulb first try? Or did he have to try a whole bunch of things out by trial and error before he came up with something good? Or look at the history of the rubber industry in ww2 USA for more trial and error.

*

If it turns out that a square kilometre is more economically and technologically efficient, then what are the implications? You can have whole settlements, with settled wooden or brick houses, churches, shops and plumbing, electricity, internet. Africa? Venezuela? Caribbean? Middle East?

Once the “invisibility cloak” has been installed (in a more widely distributed manner), maybe you can just build up a conventional (albeit small)town or settlement in that space.

[[Science break/engineering (not for everyone): I am not sure at what depth these radio waves are bouncing off of the earth, and therefore which “area” to use for “estimation (as opposed to calculation)”, and so I am unsure as to whether to keep the settlements tight, or spread out. For test purposes, tight and compact. But once proof of concept is established, maybe they can be spread out, just so long as concentrated nodes of interference are established. Maybe a node of four containers every fifty meters over a space of 2km by 2km. It might be different math if you do it that way. End “science break”. The science is hard for this sort of thing. You might need to understand some physics and engineering, at least on an intuitive level, but also with education.]]

***

Principle: once one person can do it, and do it well, and the technology and designs has been proven, and iterated until it is genuinely good, it can be reproduced and replicated over and over again, even by relatively ordinary people who are not super advanced in the fields of engineering, mathematics and science.

*

If blue prints exist, it will spread like wildfire. It will go viral. Once blue prints exist, it will potentially go viral. Ubiquitous access to settlements, small towns and villages with privacy.

*

Faraday invisibility cloak, or faraday cloaking, or faraday shielded, or electromagnetic invisibility cloak. Idk.

****
****

New idea, Islamic country such as Turkey or Iran. Builds a few hundred. One outside each town or city. And networks them together. Using normal internet. Use it for living, or co working space. The idea needs work. Can use them as a base of operations for party, political operatives, intelligence, scientists, engineers or military. Or DIA. But also for airforce, “radar” jamming!?? Just an idea.

***

Umm obvious idea is obvious, but if you have 100s of faraday shielded/cloaked settlements in a nation, you network them together via the internet.. and start up forums, chat rooms, ventrilo, and basic hosting services immediately. You also do podcasts and mailing lists. Ditto for internationally, once you have 1000s of settlements. Have (unencrypted) shortwave radio, and potentially put unlicensed broadcast radio in there too.

***

Like a shoal of fish, if one goes down? The species manages to survive..??

***

These small settlements probably evolve.
They start out as respite and refuge zones, and then become “sanctuary cities”. And evolve into more and more stable villages. Like, at first you throw 500 shipping containers into a desert, with a pipe/thick host for water from a safe source and maybe one porta-loo. But over time people show up to live in tents, and improve the water into the place, and install more toilets, long drops and eventually a septic tank system. They bring barbecues, and then upgrade to whole kitchens. They upgrade the internet piecemeal. And install radio etc. People will also set up shops, build wooden houses etc. all you have to do is install the “faraday invisibility cloak” shielding infrastructure and people will show up. If you build it, they will come. Over time, they might expand it. But you need many!!!! You could call it the faraday sanctuary city movement. For people who want to live hidden from the system. Just ideas lol.

***

Collective “fish shoal” sea steading? One person is weak, 100000+ in 1000+ settlements are strong. And “antifragile” too.

Think collectively, and horizontally..? (Ie, horizontal power)

Some people already get it lol… 😜
Some people don’t yet understand 🙃

A thousand islands of satellite “radio silence” all networked together..

***

Or, a thousand anarchic campgrounds all across places like the Middle East and Central Asia and North Africa. They spread organically and are funded by wealthy benefactors. Eventually, they are hooked up to the internet.

Basically, rich dudes just dump 200 shipping containers, properly prepared on the desert or in a grassy, free and open access to all and sundry. Make sure there are water taps, or otherwise install water. And people will show up. They will pitch tents, set up cooking facilities, dig toilets etc. and get settled in. And eventually they install communication, such as copper phone lines, shortwave radio, and internet.

If you build it, they will come.

****
****

Poland: they could create 500 faraday shielded settlements around Poland, and let the people sort it out for themselves. I.e. pitch tents, roll in cabins and caravans, install toilets/bathrooms/waste management, network it into the internet, set up shortwave radio and broadcast radio stations. And set up web hosting and ICT network support.

And also set up engineering workshops and host physicists, mathematicians, engineers etc.

Who knows where it goes from there?

Perhaps it gives Poland enough leverage to insist that the Americans (and others) stop pointing satellites at them?
Read between the lines lol.

Ps: maybe give refuge to engineers and scientists fleeing from oppressive regimes in UK, USA, Germany, Russia lol… maybe they have useful skills too..?

PPS: maybe also give refuge to propaganda warfare specialists. And do counter-propaganda warfare from under shelter. Perhaps this is the “killer app”. It is the milieu breaker. Note: sociologists, anthropologists, psychologists, ministry school graduates, linguists, philologists, historians, public relations people, marketing, political science, economics people are all good options for counter-propaganda warfare. And artists and musicians. Create a counter culture? Provide grassroots ideological and culture support to people of other nations also.

Yeah, 500 networked settlements. And they end up doing counter-propaganda warfare? And they do web hosting and provide “cloud” computing outside the system. Or better yet, they do terrestrial radio, plus podcasts of the radio shows. And they construct ideology.

 Counter-information-warfare.

***

It is a little bit anarchic, grassroots, self organising. But if you build it, they will come.

Funded by industrialists, government, a socialist “solidarity movement” or the people themselves.

****
****

Probably though, communitarian socialism similar to the early church might exist in some of these communities and locations. Just spitballing ideas.

*

And this technology favours collective action and solidarity.

*

Another group that might build these in the next 6-18 months are American Indian groups, and/or indigenous peoples in the Americas.

*

Or it might spread through churches, mosques or video gamers.

A church community builds one, or a mosque community builds one

Or a group of gamers builds one, as part of a community/solidarity organisation. They pool (some) of their resources and make it happen with 200-300 people in a grassy paddock in Australia or the UK. And they just live there without leaving, and order in supplies. And they ignore the world, without reference to ANYTHING that David is doing lol.

Think long term though. This stuff might happen totally disconnected to David lol.

Serious option:

Church groups and Islamic groups (such as mosques) are the most likely options for trail blazers and early adopters.

The dark horse possibilities are French groups or anti-intellectual property activists (possible intersection here between anti IP activists and tech enthusiasts).

FWIW, there is (or used to be) a very strong anti intellectual property attitude among tech enthusiasts. And would suggest that anti intellectual property is a highly anti imperialist, and therefore pro socialist and pro people’s stance.

“Anti imperialist socialists in favour of the abolition of intellectual property” ==> a student movement?

FWIW, Bill Gates, Alphabet (incl. google) and Apple got wealthy through intellectual property, which is a function of, and violently enforced, by USA imperialism.

***

Umm. By anti intellectual property, I mean patents and copyrights. Not trademarks. Trademarks ought to stay though. [Artists can still make money off of things like merchandising or concerts.]

*

Information wants to be free.

I’m just spitballing here. Just ideas.

All chemical engineering processes become patent free, and you can write manuals and blueprints on how to replicate methods and equipment currently protected by patents. This means that smaller countries (such as New Zealand, can become more self reliant in the field of chemical engineering) and also so that other smaller countries (south east Asia, Africa, Latin America) can do their own chemical engineering a little bit easier. Chemical engineering is a huge, massive deal. Break the international corporate hegemony of IP based monopoly control over the manufacturing of chemicals.

This would completely change the chemical engineering industry. Forever. The equipment would get cheaper and better, very quickly. And become much more suitable to smaller nations. I cannot over emphasise how important this is. For things including oil refineries.

*

And that sort of stuff gets way, way cheaper for consumers in many cases. And you rely less on imports from Japan, Korea, China, Germany and the USA. It totally breaks the USA corporate hegemony. And the international corporate hegemony.

Everything is up for grabs. No patents at all! The concept of a patent evaporates. As does the concept of a copyright.

Ummm. Trademarks still exist though, so you have to rename it. You can say in the label: inspired by or copied from xyz model.

For example, you can say “Australia Motors Tractor Model A (copied from John Deere Model A)”. But you have to rebrand it! You cannot pass your goods off as theirs. You are not allowed to use their brand name or trademark And you are supposed to acknowledge who you “borrowed” the design from.

*

And you can have it certified by local standards bodies too. Because it is totally legal.

Anti imperialist socialists against Intellectual Property (patents and copyrights).

Privacy and education are also other issues.

How? Activists live in faraday shielded settlements or camps. And work from there. But also hold down telecommuting jobs.

*

You do it by referendums at the nation state level.

And also by starting single issue political parties.

And you could do it one nation at a time, while also acting in solidarity with international efforts to do the same thing.

*

The camps and settlements are networked together via the mainstream internet, and have terrestrial radio broadcasts.

Information wants to be free
Intellectual property isn’t property
Unlock the common knowledge base for all

Intellectual property is the enclosure movement, it has dispossessed the common people of planet earth.

***

It places the means of production into the hands of the people. The means of production is the knowledge base. And if you ban patent laws and intellectual property, then you place the knowledge base in the hands of the people.

The people have seized the means of production.

***

Analysis (stolen from chat gpt):

Peter Drucker used Karl Marx's framework of societal structure but focused on knowledge as the new "capital" rather than material labor, highlighting the shift from industrial to post-capitalist knowledge society. Drucker critiqued Marx's limited view of "economic man" and advocated for individuals to have purpose and status beyond material concerns, which was addressed by the industrial model and, later, by the meaning provided in the knowledge economy through specialized work.

Umm. We have moved from the old economy, to the new knowledge economy. And the knowledge base prevents less powerful nations from having the means of production.

***

Edit:

It places the means of production into the hands of the people. The means of production is the knowledge base. And if you ban patent laws and intellectual property, then you place the knowledge base in the hands of the people.

The people have seized the means of production.

A lot of the science and innovation is to do with distribution and scale.

Distribution and scale.

Distribution and scale of metal.

Also, the tech seems to work through large radio waves (like 20m) and the relationships between them. And the complexities inherent. Oversimplification, I guess?

Without discussion. I had to reuse the same piece of paper. Obviously no RVs. It is just a house. Like a farm house in rural Nebraska. On flat ground. Surrounded by shipping containers full of plywood boxes (1m3) full of lightweight steel pipes. I think it works. Maybe some variation as to how heavy the pipes are, and how many containers, and how spread out the containers are.

And you can live in your same old 2 story house (measuring 40ft by 80ft), and use your same old driveway. And still get stuff delivered to your door. Including normal groceries.

You are still on the grid for electricity. Rely on a bore for water. You are still able to use flushing toilets (septic tank). And you still have fiber internet to your home.

You still live in the same home you have lived for 20 years. You are old. Not young. Your character in this scenario is 61 years old, your spouse is 59. You are happily married, and have three adult children. You are fairly well off, and can afford it.

On a small sign to the side of your driveway, just outside the field of shipping crates, there is a small sign. And on that sign is written the text, “you are now leaving the insane asylum” (see also; hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, Wonko the sane).

// just an idea. Inspiration.

The system has gone all in on a system of staff management using hardware/software from Silicon Valley billionaires. But the system uses fundamental laws of physics that might possibly be vulnerable to “hacks” that use little more than adequately distributed shelves full of metal, spaced apart appropriately. A matter of scale and density. Steel chimes on shelves (tubes 7 cm diameter, 1mm thick, 70cm long). Hung on lightweight conductive metal chain. Shelves inside shipping containers, pack the chimes in there like sardines, just enough space to walk. Spread across two soccer fields. 5 rows of 60 containers (sized 20ft by 8ft)? Rows 20 ft apart (what is wave length of the radio waves?)

Shelves in every second container. Use the other containers as habitable and/or storage space. 200-300 ppl living permanently.

I don’t think that once discovered that this hack can be patched. It might be an unpatchable zero day?

I think it might be doable using little more than the physics of Michael Faraday and Sir Isaac Newton?? 20% chance that it can become good technology, if it can be built at all.

****

****

Free electrons in the metal or whatever “catch” or capture the excess energy displacement in “space”, or whatever lol. It used to be called aether iirc. From the em spectrum.

Distribute the nodes related to wave length divided by two.

I use wrong physics terminology sometimes on purpose.

****

****

Product design. First experiment is just a prototype.

Hacks?

Totally replicable. But product would spread like wildfire!! Like a computer virus. Sociology/markets based hack.

All “off the shelf parts”. Which means that it can be readily and easily mass produced in any part of what used to be know as the  neo liberal world order.

Sociological model: monastery, Neal Stephenson anathem. Preserve knowledge. Supported from outside. Long term inhabitants have savings in the bank though. 100s of these places built, in USA. 1000 globally.

It is technology. Mass produced.

**

Proof of concept first.

Prototype second.

Iterate until it is cheap and effective.

And then people mass produce it. Anywhere.

Development timeframe… maybe 3-6 months?? Proof  of concept could be done quicker. But I don’t think I’ll be the one doing it lol.

**

Just inspiration

Ummmmm. Business idea. Or also social enterprise. Combination of money to stay per night, but also funded by donation.

It is a trailblazer installation. Which self replicates. Once it spreads, and the technology is thoroughly entrenched, people create new settlements.

It gives people a break. A bit of respite. They can breathe again! Even if just for a day or two. It helps.

It is for entrepreneurs!! You make money!! And every single city in the USA, NZ, UK, Australia needs one! Maybe, just outside. In a field or the desert! You are doing a public service, providing a very useful good or service, for money.

Privacy as a service.

Privacy of mind.

Respite.

Time and space to think.

A rest, or a sleep. With feeling of security.

A space to get some offline academic work done.

A space where you can meet to talk with a friend, unobserved and unheard!!! Meeting space.

You can have a day off.

**

Edit: added, You can put it in a parking lot. Just drive in and have a conversation in your own car or van, and then leave. Drive in and out in under 2 hours. Easy.

Edit: a new idea, maybe just install these shipping containers full of plywood boxes full of steel pipes in a multi story parking lot, and you can use two floors to park on, and fill two with shipping containers. I still think that the countryside idea is better, but the multilevel parking lot is okay too.

Ps:

A lot of the architecture and urban planning, and building science and stuff in the western world exists in response to disease. Or crime. Both of which I have studied. Why wouldn’t urban planning, or architecture not respond to surveillance also? Why not redesign accomodation and neighbourhood design around the ideas of privacy?

PPS:

Maybe long term people just build new communities and neighbourhoods. And live there long term. Like the new gated communities. Privacy communities. And it is built into the architecture. Like Americans moving to the suburbs in the first place? Like if the satellites were here to stay, long term. Why not just build new communities. Not with containers (that is just the prototype). But with actual houses. Simple ones, and the chimes build into the system??

Ppps: ie an extra note: maybe government subsidies exist for new privacy subdivisions, or public support for private closed monasteries/communes or whatever

Appendix:

Shelves.

20 ft long 2-3 feet wide, 8 feet hight

Metal tubes: light weight as possible. Mild steel. Hung by light chains. 40-50 cm long, 7cm diameter, .5mm thick. 4-5 shelves high

Hung as thickly as possible. Packed in closely. Rows of them. Really, lots of them. Floor to ceiling, both sides of the container. 2.5 ft deep. Not much air between them. Like ranks of marching soldiers. Maybe each layer is 10 units wide, 100 units long, 4-5 layers, hung from shelves.

You walk into the shipping container, and other than the walk way through the middle, the whole thing is hung with pieces of lightweight steel pipe. Top to bottom, front to back. Hung deeply. The whole space. A lot of pipe/tube. Racks of steel pipes. Everything conductive (and grounded).

Just inspiration. Still need a physicist and an engineer probably lol.

All about coverage. Or whatever you call it. Not about weight. It is about distribution…

***

Once the tech is perfected, rogue state: Wooden shotgun shacks, with chime containers disbursed throughout the subdivision.

***

Refugees and dissenters find a place of safety overseas, where they can live in peace. In some places, the government subsidises these developments. FYI, the rogue states might not be the ones you think that they might be… for example, some USA states might be suitable.

Just spitballing

Or a company town, or worker settlement, associated with extractive industries. Perhaps associated with extractive industries in oil rich nations that lack good governance due to lack of privacy?

*

Maybe by March 2026 there are 50000 people living in these permanent shielded settlements. By September 2026 there are a million. . Idk. Scale.

Maybe a lot in places like the Middle East, North Africa. And then Indonesia and Venezuela not long after that.

Build communities, not isolated? Like tiny towns almost, genuine comfortable settlements. With the idea that you might be there for 6-12 months. Or even years. Really get settled in long term. Only small ish numbers of people. Some people love privacy. The first 1-2 will fail, by being sabotaged socially.

Hypothetical:

Places like the Taliban in Afghanistan, Eritrea, Chad, Uganda, Iran and Syria could be trail blazers and early adopters. But just as easily people in England, Australia, USA (Texas. Nevada, North Carolina), Mexico or Cuba could do the first one/s. So why worry?

Seriously, the government of Afghanistan could make them to shelter their dia as an experiment, if they have the money, inclination, expertise (physics and engineering) and are willing to run the risk of it not working out.

Some country somewhere will use one to shelter their military intelligence or DIA, or their party headquarters. At which point the technology will “trickle down” to the normals. Or possibly a researcher in the USA or England just does it.

I just spitball ideas, in the hope that someone understands it. This might be a necessary error correction mechanism in society. A useful technology. And a safe haven for good and decent people who struggle to cope with constant mental intrusion and observation.

****
****

And if the technology works, changes and improves……

Maybe 5 years from now, the globalists rule the heavens, but there are hundreds (if not thousands) of shielded villages, towns and other settlements around the world, where people can live unmonitored and unwatched.

It would be a revolutionary innovation in the field of building science and neighbourhood design.

Idk. Who knows.

Ummmmmm. Totally silly idea that probably doesn’t work at all. Uber silly.

Honey comb cubes

Light weight steel honeycomb cubes. 1m3 made out of lightweight steel tubes 5cm diameter glued together. And placed into a plywood box, 1m3. Kind of like cardboard packaging. And you take a neighbourhood of low rise apartments. And you buy the whole lot. 250 metres by 250 metres, and fill 1/5 apartments with these steel cubes (grounded). And the whole neighbourhood is shielded.

Plywood box/cube measuring 1m3, full of lightweight steel tubes, about 5cm diameter, glued and packed tightly). Easily stackable. Stack them floor to ceiling. In apartment blocks. Can fill entire rooms. Or entire apartments. Standardised product. Easily handled and stackable. Affordable. Quick to deploy. Idk. Just an idea. Only inspiration.

People could just live and work from home. And they are still connected to the internet. Plumbing. Food deliveries. It would change everything.

*****

Or get these plywood cubes 1m3 full of lightweight steel pipes. And put multiple shipping containers that are 20 ft long in your back garden in your American gated community. Fill the whole back yard. And then fill the containers with these plywood steel pipe cubes. Maybe put some of these boxes in spare bedrooms too. Sometimes stack the crates 2-3 high. And if people act in solidarity over a 500m by 500m neighbourhood, or 1km by 1km neighbourhood, maybe it works. I’m just brain storming here.

They buy in groceries, electricity, are still connected to plumbing.

They invite their family to move back home. Half of the family come home. And some people offer space to borders. And they can seek shelter. Keep calm, carry on. Blitz spirit lol. 😜 Totalitarians amirite? 🙃.

Ummm. What if you can retrofit old neighbourhoods with privacy shielding and cloaking devices, in the same way that you can retrofit old housing stock in NZ with double glazing and insulation and thick curtains. There are thousands(?) of gated communities, or old neighbourhoods with HOA in the USA. And you have to think scale, or shelter in place. And an enormous industry crops up, and maybe 500k - 1 million people just choose to live with shelter in the USA long term m. They call it the new normal. Be creative, think at scale. And think long term. Think… Cold War?? Or sheltering in the blitz, but long term.

***

To the academics and/or intellectuals?? You might have gone all in on a business model (satellite management of the voter-consumer-worker) that just doesn’t have legs…

***

***

Spitballing, silly nonsense ideas.

Brain hurts too much atm

Idk, math is hard:

Take wavelength of the radio waves, divide by two. Multiply by ten or twenty. That is the scale of the installation. Pure guesstimate.

20/2= ten metres, times ten or twenty = 100-200. Maybe you have to do an installation that is 100-200 big. And you have to put items roughly every 10-20 metres jnside it?

This isn't proper math. But might spark insight among just a few mathematically minded individuals.

I am just tying to get an idea of scale.

Remember that there is triangulation, and bounce back, and needs to be a “handshake relationship” between the earth and the sky. And also it involves waveforms adding up or subtracting superpositions of peaks or troughs. I forget the words aghhhhhhhhhhhh. Too hard lol. But I reckon most of it uses basic radio waves, just combined in uber novel ways!!!!!!!!!!! 🙃😜 and also it uses averages of these waves, and averages over an areas, afaik ahahahahahha. The averages over an area help with triangulation and rerouting around obstacles I guess. Weird!!!!

[[Maybe I’m wrong.

Random nonsense: ignore: When the waves have different amplitudes, frequencies, or phases, the resulting waveform is a complex combination of both, with new peaks and troughs at points where the waves' values are added together. ]]

Random silly idea:

Decouple the following: egg, sperm, womb use, funding for womb rental and funding for fertility treatments, marriage and whose name is in the birth certificate. You also decouple age and becoming a parent.

There is significant market failure in the area of child procurement. Perhaps by deregulation and charity and full information this market failure can be solved. We have to introduce competition to the market. So you can have babies without the relationship. And own the property rights to the child outright. (Lemons problem is economics jargon. You thought the other parent of your child was a good one, but it turns out that they aren’t. And so you don’t bother finding a partner, because it is too hard to select a good one). The lemons problem is huge here. So massive.

Revolution, overthrew the Manchu race. China had been governed over by a warlike race of horsemen similar to the mongols for generations, since about 1618/1644. China had not been governed over by the Han Chinese since the 1600s. They were governed over for others for ages. The Manchu were a warrior people, loved horses and fighting. They maintained their own lands in the east. They were strong before conquest of China, but became weak and sedentary after conquest. They lost their culture. After the 1911 Revolution they became poor and hated. Their culture has basically died out, and language.
The revolution in 1911 was a massive revolution, and a genuine revolution. The race that ruled over the “middle kingdom” was overthrown. And within 114 they assimilated, married into the Chinese, and their language and culture faded out. The women married Chinese men, and the men were too impoverished to marry afaik.

*

Manchu empire in the Middle Kingdom, from 1648 to 1911. In 1911, a new society was born. A republic of five races under one flag.

Umm. Manchus were Jurchen once. They just changed their name?

// this is humour, not to be taken literally

// Like Jonathan Swift etc

To call them the “universal prostitutes collective” is to make an economics joke. It is meant to be humorous. Tongue in cheek.

Douglas Adam’s work is full of economics humour. Jonathan Swift’s work is full of it also. See hitchhikers guide, or a modest proposal. Or see freakonomics. Economists sometimes like jokes about excessive simplification, abstraction, or inappropriate categorisation and/or labelling.

The humour: is there remuneration? Is there sex? Are the games genuine, or just a fig leaf of justification? What are the economic incentives, and what are the conflicts of interest. It is humour. Humour is supposed to be slightly “subversive”. They are not actually prostitutes.

The map is not the territory etc. a model of reality is not the same thing as reality itself.

You shouldn’t have to explain humour. Someone could write a Swiftian satire about it, but not me.

*sigh*.

Disambiguate:

I don’t like jogging.

I don't love jogging, I always hated it.

I hate cross country too.

Running is okay though. By that I mean normal quantities of running in short bursts in a hockey game or soccer game or other sports. I'm perfectly fine at that.

Running "track", i.e. competitive running, isn't my cup of tea.

Bottom line: I can run just fine in normal soccer or hockey games when I was young. And at age 17 I could jog for 20 minutes if I really wanted to. But I hate jogging.

When I did boxing, and after it, I built cardio through jump rope mostly. But also time sparring is cardio! And boxing bags are cardio! 3 minutes at a time?! You work up a real sweat doing that. But also a little cycling. Maybe cardio machines and walking.

Note: Siobhan, Brynn and Amanda and Matthew and Dad all know that I was basically fit and healthy and strong at age 16/17. And fast too (reflexes). But they pretend otherwise. Brynn and I painted a roof together lol. And Also Brynn and Siobhan were close with Amanda were  back then. And Amanda and I were friends! She was one of my best friends in 5th form, and most of 5/6/7th in high school (brief period in 6th we drifted apart because she got kicked out of Japanese class). Also, Jesse and I went to the gym together. He knows I was tolerably fit, strong etc ??! [I do hate steady state cardio though]

They are trying to paint a false picture.

Also, I lifted a tiny bit with both Taras and Daniel. And ran on occasion with Taras, 2-3 times (he was training for rugby), even though I hate running/jogging.

I might put this elsewhere sometime.

This is a humorous economist joke. Don’t take it too seriously. Think abstract lol.

Maybe have a special government funding from which you can ask for special one off surgeries. Maybe no organ transplants? Cost-benefit is awful for this (don’t hate me). Anti biotic and basic surgeries are the magic stuff for medicine. The highest marginal benefit

Think: Fred hollow foundations, or mercy ships. Surgically repairing pelvic floors in the third world, or curing cataracts. They address various surgical needs, including those related to women.

The cataract surgery, or pelvic floor surgeries, or the ingrown toenail surgery are the highest marginal benefit surgeries. Ummm. It is stuff like that that makes me think the world is an insane asylum full of lunatics. Don’t take it literally, please. A lot of people are (or were) blind or incontinent just because they can’t get basic surgery. You know? But fat people in America are getting 200k surgeries to extend their lives for two years, and New Zealanders are getting stupid amounts of healthcare (at government expense) to prolong their lives from 76 years to 79 years… with no real quality of life!?!? After two strokes and cancer and falls.

Have you seen the cancer movie “wit”?

Or have you had a member of extended family die of cancer?

What sort of cancer treatment do doctors themselves want for incurable cancer??! So they have do not resuscitate orders?

FWIW, I have read all of the articles and/or documentaries that give you the so called “staid version” of all of these discussions.

At 19, I liked social democracy (aka, the third way).

But I feared big government socialism. Such as ussr style communism and Chinese Maoist socialism. FWIW, Some of my family were refugees from the Soviet Union.

As for Ayn Rand…

I always thought that objectivism was lame.

But that capitalism was good. Capitalism is more nimble..?

But I thought there was some merit to small government (minarchism), as opposed to big government. Because of fear of encroachment upon individual liberty. Ie, socialism is dangerous.

Communism kills people: like “mao the unknown story”, also I thought naziism was bad too. I grew up with Christian stories about the evils of both communism and nazism. Communism kills tons of people. Stalin was awful, the holodomor was awful, cultural revolution was awful, and Mao managed to starve 15 to 55 million people to death. In peace time lol.

If you have a small government, you don’t end up with mega psycho communism?

When young, I believed that “collectivism” taken too far was dangerous.

By about 21ish, I thought that small government, classical liberal, capitalism stuff was the way to go. Please dont argue too much, it’s not the right format to discuss. Vaguely libertarian I guess.

Socialism/communism is dangerous, because it kills people: see ussr, and Mao, and pol pot, and Africa..? But at least capitalism doesn’t do that?

I wasn’t all that politically sophisticated, but yeah.

Zhou, foreign minister, and subordinate of Mao.

Illness and death

According to a biography of Zhou by Gao Wenqian, a former researcher at the CPC's Party Documents Research Office, Zhou was first diagnosed with bladder cancer in November 1972. Zhou's medical team reported that with treatment, he had a high chance of recovery; however, medical treatment for the highest-ranking party members had to be approved by Mao. Mao ordered that Zhou and his wife should not be told of the diagnosis, no surgery should be performed, and no further examinations should be given.

According to Ji Chaozhu, Zhou Enlai's personal interpreter, Henry Kissinger offered to send cancer specialists from the United States to treat Zhou, but that offer was eventually refused.[196] By 1974, Zhou was experiencing significant bleeding in his urine. After pressure by other Chinese leaders who had learned of Zhou's condition, Mao finally ordered a surgical operation to be performed in June 1974, but the bleeding returned a few months later, indicating metastasis of the cancer into other organs. A series of operations over the next year and a half failed to check the progress of the cancer. Zhou continued to conduct work during his stays in the hospital, with Deng Xiaoping, as the First Deputy Premier, handling most of the important State Council matters. His last major public appearance was at the first meeting of the 4th National People's Congress on 13 January 1975, where he presented the government's work report. He then fell out of the public eye for more medical treatment. Zhou Enlai died from cancer at 09:57 on 8 January 1976, aged 77.

After you do this, you will understand a lot of basics, and tough books written by academics make more sense to you, and you now know how to seek out more education whenever you need it.

It is like once you are a tradie, you know where to buy the parts, and which tool to use. And if you don't, you always know who to ask. You will know how to get the next paper, or which book to read.

Umm. At  this point, you could do any first year sociology paper from distance Massey if you wanted to.

Have you guys read Candide by Voltaire? It is a satire, but a philosophical satire.

I read a bunch of Voltaire once.

I reckon that Voltaire + Durante “the story of history” is probably enough philosophy for a guy that already loves ideas/concepts. I don’t agree with either pov, but you don’t need that much philosophy?

After that, you just read history, engineering, pop science, art, technology, biographies and how-to lol. The non fiction gives you a feel for how things are and we’re.

Voltaire was one of the first writers of serious philosophy I read. He’s legit, even though I disagree.

Umm. Jonathan Swift is good also. Gullivers Travels.

International Trade

If you want to understand international trade, then look at stuff like the USA embargo against Cuba. Look at the "special period" that happened after the collapse of the USSR. The history of Cuba can teach you so much about the world of "multi lateral trade deals", international Governance, and the sanctity of private property rights. North Korea is also instructive.

By studying Cuban history (even just for an afternoon), you can learn a lot about international trade, and quickly. That sort of thing is time well spent.

Custom made floors

My floors are wood tone/colour “vinyl sheet flooring” on top of a thick layer of what seems to be memory foam. My feet sink into it slightly with every step.

At first glance, the floors look like wood. But they are actually wood coloured vinyl sheet flooring, on top of what I presume to be memory foam.

The “hard floors here” are not actually “hard”.

The carpet is normal carpet over 3+ inches of memory foam underlay. My feet sink into it very badly when I walk on it.

Keeping me on soft modified flooring hurts my feet.

I have to brace my feet and ankles constantly, and hold myself stiffly to cope with the squishy floor. I have to tighten and brace the intrinsic muscles of my feet.

Umm. It affects my gait. I can’t walk normally? That is, I don’t have a normal heel-to-toe roll through of the feet? Or whatever it is called? It doesn’t work. I have lost normal dorsiflexion of the big toe, and normal flexion of my toes, while walking on this floor. Because I have to hold the feet stiff. I just can’t walk properly?

This has a flow on effect to my spine and back.

It causes severe problems. It really is causing severe problems.

I cannot find good housing, because I cannot wash properly. Can’t wash under my armpits. Or even shower. I got my current house because my father singed the contract. He is technically renting it. I am just paying the rent bill.

And there were lots of modified houses out there (dodgy floors). And my selection on through online places like trademe limited what I could find (deliberate) on the part of trademe. Trademe is like eBay, but it includes renting and buying accomodation/houses.

The Industrial Revolution - Patrick N. Allitt, 36 lectures, Oxford, available through the Great Courses (by Amazon)

Great Scientific Ideas That Changed the World - Steven L. Goldman, 36 lectures, available through the Great Courses (by Amazon).

Lectures equal most important.

More education (life long learning)

Biographies (and stories) are a great way to learn about  the Industrial Revolution, science and medicine:

Rutherford

Mendel

Faraday

Maxwell

James Watt

Jenner

Pasteur

Alexander Graham Bell

Newton

Other:

The story of Rockefeller and standard oil and the oil industry, including advancements  in the science and technology of the oil refining industry

Umm. Also read up on (have a Quick Look at) the history of the Haber-Bosch process, Frasch-Burton Process

Read the history of Andrew Carnegie, at least once.

World view modification protocol, also known as “education”.

Firstly, study the history of medicine, science, and technology, and especially the history of the Industrial Revolution.

Secondly, read some biographies of scientists, inventors, industrialists and a few about important discoveries in science.

[I already described these elsewhere]

[the three lecture series are most important, followed by the biographies]

Thirdly, read some general history about the world

History:

One basic western history of any kind, if you have never done one.

European Civilization, 1648-1945 - John Merriman.

One basic world history like the history of nearly everything by Bill Bryson, if you have never done one. Fills in the gaps. And it is super easy!!!

Mao: the unknown story (they tried to do the Industrial Revolution in fast forward, and failed) it will also help to inoculate you against low quality thinking. And help you to feel pity and compassion for the Chinese people, instead of fear and or hatred.

An understanding of history is perhaps one of your greatest weapons against the war of stupidity.

Then do the…

Explode protocol:

Those who think they know everything will learn nothing”. Explode over confidence among know it alls through exposure to history. Also, protect the ignorant against particular pitfalls. I am not the boss of you.

And then anthropology and misc history:

Corporate and capitalism:

Dot com bubble, find and read a book, perhaps

Dot.Con: How America Lost Its Mind and Money in the Internet Era - John Cassidy, link

Tulipomania: The Story of the World's Most Coveted Flower & the Extraordinary Passions It Aroused - Mike Dash, link

USA Railway stocks, and going bust, look up two examples on Wikipedia

Anthropology:

Samia, in Wikipedia, just read their customs

Foot binding: from radical feminist perspective, see also: internalised misogyny, idk where to find these articles

Muslim fgm, slicing clitoris off, graphic. Find several articles. Maybe also podcasts from an ex Muslim perspective. Or articles from a radical feminist (second wave feminist perspective).

Dayuma Story, book. By Ethel Wallis. Very good on language, translation and anthropology linguistics or whatever. Very enlightening.

Untrustworthy medical:

Tuskegee, one documentary or book only

Thalidomide, one documentary or book only

Semmelweis, one article or encyclopedia entry

Antibiotic resistance: One documentary or article only

There are negative effects of antibiotics (everything comes at a price):

JFK health struggles, including spinal issues from antibiotics

Tuberculosis, and disease reservoir

Cultish/religious stuff:

Children’s crusade, two encyclopedia entries

Warren Jeffs, flds, one story in documentary or book, only. Or encyclopedia. Moral of that story: weird old dudes do whatever they can, and create ideologies just to get access to young women for sex (or rad fem wording, access to young female bodies).

Messiahs and mystics, book. Is fun, iirc.

History:

History of socialism in NZ, explodes so much. Pages from te ara, read stuff on the standard from the past. Explodes the definition of “socialism” sooooooo hard. Read also the Wikipedia level take of Nordic social democracy (which is actually the same thing as democracy. And also read a quick history of the welfare state. And a quick read of Keynes (theory and practise, and history).

History of the university itself. Find a respectable version. They shape the intellectual landscape. And create ideology. They even construct the very fabric of reality that you live in?! One history of the university is really rewarding.

And then a tiny bit about global governance and international trade. I don’t know how to address that though.

Note: at this point your world view has gone splat. Don’t worry, you can reconstruct it!!!

****

****

Fun books: reaper man by Pratchett. Short stories: Shoddy lands (the “modern” women, and drab Oxbridge “misogyny”) and ministering angels (the thin woman and fat woman are sent to keep sex starved spacemen company on mars. One is an insufferable socialist ideologue, the other is a plump aging prostitute) by cs Lewis. After that, the dark tower (indoctrinating the idealistic, knowledge hungry youth at universities to become obedient pawns).

And then last of all, the space trilogy. It is really, really handlers, but still good. It is good science fiction. It is the last book, that hideous strength that has good allegory. Look at when it was published lol. Before even Mao came to power. And also, and imagine the switch from ideology and academic and intellectual control by means of the “scientific” university system to “direct” control. Don’t take it literally!!!!!!

Also, he predicts the “rug pull” happens in about 2020.

[[[Ministering angels:

The Thin Woman is an intellectual who spouts jargon-laden rationales for the biological necessity of prostitution. The Fat Woman is an aging prostitute who has volunteered to “play doxy” to the sex-starved spacemen on Mars.]]]

****

****

We have this thing called the “global order”, based on international governance and multilateral trade mechanisms. It was created in the aftermath of the Second World War. Also, universities create and maintain the intellectual and ideological landscapes that create and maintain this global order.

We are just basically in this international order… Under the thumb of international trade. Under the thumb of international governance. And under the thumb of universities (by means of social engineering and weird ideology and control of thoughts). Honestly idk what to do about any of it.

****

****

We also have people who are in favour of the “scientific management and planning of society”. But I don’t think that it really works all that well.

They used to call it “scientific socialism” but it isn’t very scientific, nor is it socialism. Ummm. It is vaguely “sciency”.

So I prefer to call it the “not very scientifically managed and planned society”.

Ps: old people have forgotten that it is not just their body that is in decline, but that their brain has been in decline since the age of 50. Respect for the elderly is extremely important. And they are worthy of honour, and can tell good stories and teach us so much. But the flip side of that is humility on the part of the elderly.

****

Favourite parts are the lecture series (the first three) and reading scientist/inventor/industrialist biographies.

You can learn so much from the study of their story of the Industrial Revolution, and also the history of disease, science and medicine.

Biographies are one of the best ways to do history.

Throw in one biography of someone like Mao, and your brain goes lol. And explodes.

Ps: one more bit:

International Trade

If you want to understand international trade, then look at stuff like the USA embargo against Cuba. Look at the "special period" that happened after the collapse of the USSR. Good thing to read, what if a satellite state in a particular space wants to leave an arrangement/union based on economic cooperation, a particular ideology regarding economic management and development and trade??

Ummm. Learning a second language, particularly French or German, if you speak English, is probably really helpful if you speak only one. It is beneficial, for education in general. Because language and conversation is such an important part of consciousness. And it is part of what makes you human in the first place.

Umm. Learning a second language is nothing new though. It does help to understand language itself better.

Also, some additional understanding of the classics, Greek, Latin, translation itself, and the history of language is nice.

Language itself is uber important.

Bottom line, a second one helps (especially French or German if English is first language).

Ps: nothing new there ^

Learning a second language forces you to come into contact with the history of language itself.

Also, study of the Bible, Classics helps you to understand language and culture too. If a scholarly person.

For nz

What if university was for people 115 iq or higher. But it became free. You still need goodish marks, but not hyper competitive. People who can’t do university can do polytech. Polytechnic really good too. It is fantastic, you can learn so much.

Umm. 100-115 iq can circle back to do uni, but only at their expense, and only after the age of 25.

*

Also, maybe make requirements for school teachers a little less strict on degrees, but stricter in iq. They need a 115 iq or more to become one (yes, even pe). But they don’t need a degree plus diploma (i can’t recall the rules for education for teachers). Maybe just a certificate for teaching (6 months, plus cram for the teachers test). Plus demonstrate proficiency in your subjects of choice. And learn as you go for the rest via online distance learning. Guild model for teachers, not professional model. Teaching isn’t a profession, and ought not to be treated as one (I feel the same way about accounting, but whatever).

I’m not fighting for these ones lol.

Really dumb random ideas, ignore please

Political Policy

Binding Citizens Initiated Referendums at 66%

You want to get a law passed, or laws. Or laws and regulations (no more than 3 pages of material).

You write it down. Get it checked and approved for quality/coherence by a panel of 5 high court judges.

Then you get a petition going

You get 5% of the voting population to sign it

Then it becomes a mail referendum. If you can get a 66% majority to agree with it, it is put directly into law (AND possibly bureaucratic regulation).

How is it put into law? Ummm. Once you get 66% votes in approval for it, it goes to the high court (who already approved the referendum, in a five person panel), who then hands it off to the governor general to sign it directly into law.

****

If you have direct democracy, here are some ideas of things that could be changed with it. Bypassing politicians altogether. Just spitballing.

Get rid of defamation, libel and slander laws.

Make it legal for school boards engage in no fault and no notice/severance dismissal of teachers at the END of every school year.

Democratise the entirety of the RNZ and TVNZ boards. You vote for them just like the District Health Boards.

Add a demerit tax to the factory farming of pork. A tax of maybe 20%.

Ban excise tax on cigarettes and tobacco altogether. It’s just a “poor tax”, and makes up more than 80% of price of cigarettes.

Re-legalise tobacco smoking in dedicated pubs and bars. People probably drink more because they can’t smoke more inside.

Introduce a 20% wage subsidy for all agricultural workers on verified organic farmers.

Ban sale of spectrum to any company flying satellites through low earth orbit.

The New Zealand Government shall fund the construction and maintenance of 100 faraday shielded locations across New Zealand (assuming the technology works). 40 shall be for the general public, 20 shall be reserved for the army, navy and airforce, 20 shall be reserved for the universities, 20 shall be reserved for the public sector, including but not limited to the department of internal affairs, MFAT, and MBIE (intelligence can do it for themselves).

These locations shall measure no less than 100 metres by 100 metres.

***

Ban all patents, copyright and other laws. But do it via the bill of rights.

Every person has the right to reprint for personal use, or local non profit use any documents, media, art, books, music, blue prints, recipes or software currently covered by “copyright”. They are not permitted to sell these items.

You can also reprint and publish recipes and instructions  and source code for any proprietary pieces of software, hardware or substances.

Every person (or NZ registered entity) has the right to manufacture any pill, potion, or medical device, electronic device, computer chip, or other manufacturable good independently of whether it is covered by patent law or not. But is not permitted to sell or export these items. This doesn’t cover things like illicit drugs or firearms.

Every person has the right to repair any proprietary piece of hardware or software without voiding agreements or warranty, if reasonable and affordable means of repairing it are not available.

Subsidised pads and tampons at school for women under age 18, just in case they are mildly neglected by their parents. Even though some non neglected women will exploit it also.

***

If requested in writing, women under the age of 18 can request subsidised sanitary products from the school reception and receive them within 10 days. They will cost $3, or a 10% surcharge. Whichever is more. You get a huge bag. Contains 3 packets of daytime, and 2 packets of nighttime. But have to (or can) specify exact type and size when you request in writing. Not a huge issue, but moderately important for kids with slack parents.

Maybe it should be about $3 for a bag 5 packs of pads (or tampons) from the school reception.

But to avoid overuse, charge about $3 for the bag. And ration it out for only one bag of five items per month per girl. (Otherwise people will use arbitrage lol - aka, buy in one market and sell in another to make a few extra bucks).

It isn’t about poverty “proper”, it is more to do with girls whose parents are too useless and neglectful to provide their daughters with the necessary items.

[[Note, anecdote: my grandmother was a teacher at a school for the underprivileged for a period of time. And she said that students would often show up to school hungry, having eaten nothing but “saveloy water” for dinner. This is where the parents boiled saveloys in water, ate the meat themselves (saveloys are small red processed sausages), and then gave the water/broth to the students. The parents had enough food, but ate it themselves. In a world with parents like that, it can make sense to heavily subsidise items the daughters of neglectful parents might not have adequate access to.

They ate the sausages but gave the kids the water.

That anecdote shaped my attitude towards poverty and how it works quite a bit.

*

Also, I had a flatmate/friend whose parents used to neglect them when they were young, and sell their belongings to buy drugs. This friend used to damage their own belongings to avoid losing them to being sold… they ate little other than plain rice for weeks on end, so I was told. Welfare was available from WINZ, but didn’t always trickle down to the kids).

Sometimes the parents can technically afford the pads etc, but don’t buy them. And the kids have a weird and awkward relationship with their parents, and can’t insist that their parents pay for them..

Oh, and as for just getting a job, you can’t always easily get a job before the age of 15 in nz, due to labour laws. And also, decent, regular part time jobs don’t just grow on trees??

/anecdote over]] I wish I didn’t have to over explain these things.

Note: nothing here on drugs. My opinion on drugs is that drugs are bad, but that prohibition does more harm than good. But that you can’t really solve these problems in direct democracy?? I don’t even like people drinking too much, not that I want to get involved there.

Note 2: it can be used as a very powerful error correction mechanism. E.g. the New Zealand public would have used it for things like the anti smacking legislation.

This is a theoretical, hypothetical picture or blueprint of how the faraday force field (aka faraday fortress, aka Rutherford protection dome) combined with the abolition of IP laws, could be used in creating democratic socialism at the nations state level, and then also spread to new nation states. Because an open source industry for the equipment associated with extraction, refining, and manufacturing and production will crop up.

Piracy of everything, but legal piracy.

I think that probably the sanctuary city model makes a lot of sense. These LEO (low earth orbit) satellites use timing crystals, or a particular resonance. And they use radio waves, perfectly timed for triangulation. If you can disrupt their timing, the whole thing falls apart.

Maybe use radio waves that ramp up and down, and disrupt the "timing crystals" in the satellites? I'm not sure how they do it? It is just an idea.

You don't need to kill the satellite, just throw the rhythm of the timing off. The timing of these things is absolutely bonkers.

Maybe have multiple location?? It is just science fiction nonsense. No need to burn the circuits, just disrupt timing of their triangulation using radio waves superimposed on one another. Somehow. This might be pseudoscience. But it might spark inspiration.

And maybe you have 30 locations from which to do it within a 100km region. But no way to coordinate timing between one another.

Use Non literal thinking. Please.

*

Or just disrupt their communications with one another, by simply disrupting their antennae by filling it with the right wave length of em spectrum energy. Idk. That might disrupt their ability to triangulate and time things.

*

They have to constantly communicate with one another via radio waves to check in with one another based on location, velocity, and updating one another internal “clocks” to maintain synchronicity. But they have to do this by standard radio waves, transferred to copper(?) receivers that resonate in response. But you can just find these radio receivers and make them resonate so hard and fast that they can’t be used to pick up information anymore. Just locate the satellite, and hit it with the right frequency and tons of directed energy to disrupt the radio receiver coils (or better yet, the sender things) by making them resonate according to your signals. You might have to “ramp up and down a bit” automatically (100 times a second), but the slightest disruption might be enough to throw off timing. If you hijack the em transmitter or receiver coil antennae by forcing it to oscillate, maybe it disrupts it..?

idk, you just oscillate their antennae really hard again and again lol. To break their comms. They can reset its, but maybe it is enough. It is really precision stuff lol. Just disrupt their comms and/or timing functions. Damage their ability to communicate timings and locations to one another.

Be very non literal, I’m pretty vague. But you don’t need to hack it, or break their encryption. Just “shake” their sender and receiver antennae really hard. Idk. It might need a nation state actor or two (or five). Impractical at the moment.

***

More likely breaks down to social or psychological reasons. Maybe in a country like Poland, or Hungary, or Ukraine, or Georgia or Chechnya a party or union (a labour union) builds 50 sheltered locations (under faraday force fields, or in faraday fortresses, or under a Rutherfordian invisibility cloak). And they use these locations to do counter propaganda. And to run radio stations. And to become ideological workshops. And to do novel scientific research. And to be a library for “forbidden knowledge. And basically to shelter the sick and hurting. But also to play mind games and rules lawyer the far!!! Lots of mind games, and lots of rules lawyering. Idk if it works though.

Big Churches

Big Churches build them for their flock:

It might be the only place you can pray without observation or interruption. It becomes an essential part of religious belief for Christians in America.

You build them, and America churches build them so that they can go to pray without observation or interruptions.

They pray so that they can feel the spirit of God, rather than feeling like they’re under surveillance the whole time.

Perhaps they walk and pray, or they kneel and pray. I am unsure. Or they sit at desks and pray, while writing in their journal.

Anyway, they drive to it, get out of their car. Spend some time in prayer, and leave.

It’s literally just 100 shipping containers in a field just outside of town. You can walk and pray, or kneel and pray.

Matthew 6:5-7

A place of spiritual rest and replenishment.

Other

If (or when) the tech is perfected (and has become ubiquitous), you can create other things. Like build a Muslim prayer garden, or shift a whole town onto a location with faraday shielding technology built into the foundations. E.g. dig 1000 containers full of boxes of steel pipe into the ground and bury them. And build the town on top of it (with adequate attention paid to drainage).

****
****

Hypotheticals

What happens if the Muslims of planet earth go magumbo and wage a holy Jihad against the satellites by building entire sheltered cities and towns (containers of honey combed steel buried underground) and then developing large number and/or huge arrays of radio transmitters (in a decentralised manner) to disrupt the timing mechanisms and coordination mechanisms of the satellites at a distance?? Thereby disabling them, without attacking them directly with surface-to-air-missiles).

The cities and towns are all networked to one another, and contain whole universities, polytechs and light industrial districts. Or smaller versions of these.

Umm. The radio transmitters that are created are standardised replicable medium sized devices that can be mass produced, and used en masse.

I still think that the social and propaganda and psychological changes that occur from having large people existing “outside” the satellite’s view probably changes things enough. Maybe the rest happens via referendums.

****
****

Or just put 100-200 containers (with plywood boxes full of steel pipe) on a field close together. Then lay boards of wood on top, to turn it into a large flat area. Then put a meeting house (like a marae) on top, and some offices for people to work, and some large tents and small cabins for people to stay in (seek refuge).

Good for indigenous groups? I might do a diagram later. Few live there, but at least you have a meeting place. And a place for a few admin staff to live.

It is just an idea.

****
****

Going back to the previous comment about Muslim reaction:

Radio transmitters could simply overload the radio receiver coils in the satellites from within the shielded/sheltered locations.

Also, sheltered locations could easily be used as a base of operations for propaganda warfare.

A sheltered village/town could have mosques, schools, houses, a supermarket, doctor/dentist and a radio station.

Perhaps one might even contain the (scaled down) equivalent of PLA Information Engineering University in Zhengzhou, Henan. It is rumoured to be an institution for information warfare. Link.

To be honest, I think that the information warfare and propaganda value of these settlements might be far more effective that their use in jamming the satellites with radio wave equipment.

Note: as one of the ideas are transferable to Christian organisations also.

Web hosting and “pony express samizdat”

They want to provide web hosting for time shifted radio content (podcasts) but can’t. They also want to host samizdat. But they can’t. They keep getting hacked. So they just give you a memory stick, and you can put their time shifted content (and other materials) onto your laptop.

Newspapers

Some people print newspapers too.

*

Ideas: Web hosting, radio stations, news papers, and libraries (but libraries where you have to read the material there, like old libraries that existed in Ancient Greece where you had to read the material when they were there (books and scrolls chained to the shelves).

The shielded communities communicate with one another by shortwave radio. If they can’t manage internet communication. Ahahahah.

Or pigeon post with thumb sticks or paper, if people/pony express can’t or won’t do it.

Library + radio station.

Other idea:

In the year 2028:

Maybe people just shield themselves somewhere, somehow in small villages with radio stations. And create radio stations that engage in advertising campaigns aka milieu breaking.

The wider public hear them. They promote the idea of a referendum.

Non binding petition initiatives referendum in NZ: this satellite control thing just isn’t working for us. I think that we should try something new!??

We do the petition and deliver it to the parliament. They do a referendum, and we vote 91% that we don’t like it and it isn’t working.
The referendum is a success.

Our parliamentarians bring it up in their next conversation with the Americans. And try to figure out solutions.

New Zealanders keep on using shielded locations to do radio, and provide political commentary (and maybe talkback) from shielded locations. We eventually change away from satellite control. Without incident or much drama.

Kinda like our nuclear free thing under Lange.

*

Where? Umm. Anywhere in New Zealand that you can afford spectrum lol. Maybe Dunedin or Palmerston North.

Rural radio stations might be really easy. Maybe find something near Hawkes bay? Or way down south.

That was just an example of how one might get the ball rolling. Treat it as inspiration.

A new idea, really interesting…

Or, to make it more aesthetically pleasing, you can dig the containers into the dirt, before making a settlement on top of it.

Or….

Create a basement for your whole settlement 200 metres by 200 meters with brick and concrete and pillars. Fill it with simple wooden boxes of lightweight steel pipe. Do this using proper and standard construction methods.

The ceiling of the basement is wood. Including the roading/patha.

And then on top of it, build your settlement out of standard wooden buildings, 2-3 stories high. Make it very crowded and compact.

Build houses, a small supermarket, doctor/dentist, one cafe/restaurant, web hosting company ($$), a church/meeting hall, radio station and broadcasting tower. Power generation. Swimming pool, spa. Ordinary plumbing and electrical. You buy in all food though.

Just an idea??

The basement is 200 metres by 200 metres in size. Or bigger. Underneath the whole settlement. You run pipes, internet, and electrical through the basement.

Hundreds of permanent settlements like this crop up. Worldwide. They’re like incorporated towns in medieval Europe. People there act as though the satellites will exist for one hundred years (I don’t think that they will, but people act as though they will).

Motivation: I just want to chill, man?

It becomes their home, for years to come. Genuinely!

It is like building a model town for those who just want to chill! Maybe even make it pretty, like an old European medieval town (like you might find in Austria or Germany, Spain or Italy?). Charming and pretty, like Nuremberg at Christmas. I’m bad at aesthetics tbh. Zzz. Japanese vernacular is nice too.

Ps: you could make it bigger, but I think 200 by 200 is fine.

The village idea, or faraday force field, does the same thing that the faraday box was supposed to do: give you autonomy of mind.

I came up with something that has the same function as the faraday cube.

I called it the:

freedom cube
privacy cube
faraday booth

But the town/village model does it. So does the option for a single paddock. In hindsight, the cube/booth was a stand-in or a work in progress. Some stuff I do is symbolic also.

If people can reclaim their privacy of mind in these faraday shelters, then they can reclaim their voices (inside it) at the family dinner table, or the cafe, or in the meeting hall, and in the radio station, and at the computer (chat rooms, video games, forums). And once they have voices again, perhaps we have democratic socialism develop at the nation state level. Including democratic control of trade, commerce, economy, culture, belief, style and governance, and the media. And democratic control of EDUCATION. [By the way, my ideas of what democratic socialism are pretty broad, and can include Keynesian spending and a robust welfare state, as well as excellent housing policy. Also, state led economic development, and maintaining control over state assets.]

Just a good idea:

Once the trail blazers have made one hundred settlements, and the early adopters are moving into the market.

Use case: small town USA, a church of 200 members, builds a small settlement consisting of 100 faraday houses that is 10 rows by 10.

They invite the poor (non druggies), the weary, the widow the orphan, refugees (of the new electronic oppression), the dispossessed, enslaved women, forced to perform the same function as sex workers etc. People of all nations, tongues, background supported. They support the poor and needy directly. It is like an Acts 2 church.

Anyone who wants a conversation, or a place to meet, or a space for private discussion, can find it there. They also have a radio broadcast facility.

They expand the number of cabins on the fly.

The settlement expands to be 500 members large.

They then create more church plants in the area. They are linked together with copper phone lines for stable internet and phone line connections.

synergy, use a strong fixed magnet near a whole bunch of metal pipes, a half a container of them, and move it around. Maybe spin it gently. And it makes the faraday container stronger? by disrupting the polarity ("spin") of the lines of the radio beam building blocks. Using the faraday polarisation technique?

Maybe combine a standardised parlay container, but use a magnet strapped to the side of it, with a motor that rotates it? It might change the depolarising function of the pipes. I can’t put it into words. It might be bogus. But it might make the whole thing much more cost effective.

Ideas for pleb politics

Remove all taxes from beer. Including excise taxes and GST. GST is currently 15% (thanks John Key). Make it cheap.

Remove 50% of taxes from cigarettes and tobacco.

Then people will drink beer and smoke tobacco, instead of switching to spirits and methamphetamine? We could create a culture of beer drinking instead of a culture of harder drugs. And people tend to moderate their consumption of beer, due to fears of weight gain!

These are things you can do by means of what I call "pleb politics" (I.e. direct democracy at 66%). Petition initiated referendums. And you can bypass the gremlins of public health, and social planning wonks and academics.

They are easy wins.

[FYI, for the international set, we don't have much cocaine here in NZ. Mostly just weed, meth and alcohol.]

For those of who don’t know, prohibition was a scam. And it enriched gangs, thus creating a criminal element in areas that didn’t really need it. Such as Chicago. If you create a criminal element, it’s horrible. It keeps the people down.

In Latin America, maybe they could legalise cocaine, in a heavily regulated manner, and do it by means of direct democracy? The USA war on drugs is evil, and has ruined Latin America. It enriches gangs.

Two more ideas

These two ideas aren’t any good for “pleb politics”, but they are good policy ideas. Maybe

How about having a "class c drugs license" for taking class c drugs. You can get a special license by meeting certain requirements. Firstly, be employed (or independently wealthy). No welfare recipients. Secondly, be over the age of 23 (both weed and ecstasy cause brain damage by the way, and your brain is still developing). Thirdly, pass a multi choice test about drugs, just like the NZ learners drivers license permit, and Fourth, get a doctors note stating you are of "sound body and mind" and can cope with taking class C drugs.

And you can only take them in a licensed venue. Cannabis at a cafe venue (with food, no alcohol, closing time of 6:30pm. Not open on Sundays. The only supplier and importer for cannabis is the New Zealand government. Don’t grow it here.

Ecstasy, you can take it only at a government licensed venue, and these places can open only on Friday and Saturday. The person dispensing drugs is a government employee, show your license to buy it. But pay the venue salesperson. The only MDMA importer and wholesaler is the NZ government.

This de-escalates the war on drugs, thus reducing scope for police intrusion into our lives, and cutting off (and reducing) funding towards gangs. It also sequesters annoying druggies and no-hopers away and down-and-outers away from the decent normal people.

Note: I don't like drugs, and I dislike both the people who do them, and those who sell them. But I do favour a deescalation (and perhaps cessation) of the war on drugs, combined with a harm reduction approach.

I don’t want to normalise drugs, or encourage more drug use. I just want to deescalate the “war on drugs”. Or perhaps bring an end to it.

****
****

The limiting factor for cheap beer drinking is weight gain. But also social opprobrium.

A faraday de-polarisation device. A depolarisation sieve. It strips the orientation from the em beams/fields from the sky. Disrupting their functionality.

A gap generator.

Get a piece of wood. A board measuring 8 foot by 8 foot.

And then get a bundle of pipes, made out of mild steel. Very narrow pipes. One cm diameter, thin walls. Make the bundle about 12 cm diameter, like a bundle of sticks. And about 180cm long. Wrap a large amount of very tightly wound copper wire around it. To make something similar to, but not exactly like an electromagnet.

Make four of these. And put them on the wooden board. Plug one end of the cable on the bundle into current in, and the other end into current out. Modulate the current correctly. I forget how to do this. Do it for each of the four bundles. Congratulations, these tubes (the walls of them) strip the polarity from the fields/beams from the sky-computers. Using faradays principles of polarity, not fully understood (look it up).

Stack four of these on top of one another.

Umm, lay them 90 degree angle, like rotate them in a cross hash pattern?  You want them to cancel out a bit.

You have four by four of these.

That’s your “polarity stripper”. It kills the em rotation, thus destroying the ability of the rays to get you. It takes a a lot of power.

It could be mobile. That is the starting point for a skunks works you need to build it in a passive “faraday shielded hermitage” (another words, faraday fortress freeway settlement”.

Chance it works, right out of the box: 2%. But the chance it can be turned into a viable product, is 20%. But if it works, it could be mass produced from inside a faraday shielded hermitage, and marketed and sold widely. Maybe even converted into a mobile “gap generator”. Furthermore, it could best be used to extend the area of safety with about passively shielded hermitage. Maybe the hermitage is shielded passively, but the area around it (for tents and fields and gardens) is shielded actively. So if it goes down, you can shelter in the hermitage.

See the page on faraday for learning about the polarisation of light thing.

Faraday also discovered that the plane of polarization of linearly polarised light can be rotated by the application of an external magnetic field aligned with the direction in which the light is moving. This is now termed the Faraday effect.[63] In Sept 1845 he wrote in his notebook, "I have at last succeeded in illuminating a magnetic curve or line of force and in magnetising a ray of light".[70]

Think of it as a jumping off point for creating something so cheap that it can be used by almost anyone. (Not literally anyone), but at least by many types of people.

Just scatter a few around, and it’ll ruin their ability to triangulate properly. It destroys their whole thing if try’s can’t triangulate. Imagine that they need a large areas of effect to triangulate and create a good “handshake” triangulation relationship. One isn’t enough. You’d need at least 3-4 in a location. (A small group of these “gap generators” in a location, at least 3-4, up to 8-9, in an area to get it going). One isn’t enough.

Or if you had power, and everything designed perfectly, could shield or shelter a whole town, maybe. Have to make the devices very simple. And very well engineered, no complex electronics.

They look like an 8 by 8 by 8 ft stack of shipping pallets. With log sized bundles in between each layer.

This is still science fiction.

Maybe what is needed is a skunks works, just like J.E. Gordon at the RAE in ww2, or Turing at Bletchley. TBH, the faraday shelters themselves need to be “skunks works’d” and tested. And turned into prototypes, before being improved and made more costs effective.

If you had this sort of stuff up and running in a towns I think they’d get printers up and running, and start doing fliers and posters straight away. But I still believe broadcast radio is much more effective. Perhaps along with broadcast terrestrial TV. Radio is magical tbh. An amazing technology. It’s the best.

***

Imagine if you have hermitages all over the world. And they come in clusters of about five, and all around these hermitages, they have gap generators. And they’re all able to use printers. And some of them have radio stations. They broadcast radio live from their locations! Legally.

What if this technology is so cheap, and so good, and so reliable, that people anywhere in the world can do it. Or becomes so cheap. And what if there are blueprints available, and tables of calculations for how many material to use. What if it becomes ubiquitous?

***

Large number of people will seek refuge in faraday hermitages, and around them with generators. And communities can have privacy again. And they’ll just live like this, while still being embedded in the society that they live in.

And some people will just plug them into spare apartments that they own, to disrupt the system.

Update:

If you’re physics-ey. For the sake of information. Just for other people to draw colour and vibe from.

One:

Something something spin/rotation/polarisation. Map-territory, or whatever. I read about this years ago, in Feynman biographies, and online. I also borrowed his textbooks from the library. He had something about atomic wobble, and rotation. A frisbee.

Polarisation. Polarity.

I’m thinking about the “rotational information”. You don’t actually have to look at it.

Two:

I read this book on Christmas Day in 2007, along with what I talk about when I talk about running by Murakami. It was in the Wairarapa at Amanda’s Uncle’s place. Schroedingers kittens.

These are here just because this is the sort of stuff I get inspired by. You don’t really need to read any of it. Seriously, it’s just here because I thought that it’s interesting.

Hypothetical ideas:

Next:

What if someone creates full blueprints and instructions for a DIY faraday encampment with the capacity for DDOS attacks on the satellites, to prevent their mesh network from working. It intercepts their packets to one another, imitates them, and uses their shape to DDOS the mesh network. Some sort of packet sniffing, and spoofing. I forget the right words. But they just fill the channels with garbage.

Then anyone can make one anywhere.

Probably need to create a community of networked hermitages first, and then start developing better technology with blueprints.

Then nation-state actors can hold USA corporations hostage (musk, bezos, Branson), by saying, “pay us 100 million dollars, or we’ll DDOS your satellites’ mesh network as they fly above us”. For example, nation states in Central Asia, the Arab world, or sub Saharan Africa.

Even smallish nation state actors.

Find a cure, like the search for a cure for polio.

Just inspiration.

Hiding

Postscript

Note: In the aggregate, culture changes. But never mind that for now. Get the technology operating first.

Note 2: But in the medium to long term, culture matters. As Drucker said, “Culture eats strategy for breakfast”.

Privacy, education, conversation, friendship, shelter

Ummmmm. What if we had a “sponsored refugee camp” movement? It’s just an idea. People could create refuge for themselves and others, and outsiders would sponsor them to stay safe in the refuge.

This idea isn’t ready, but I’m too tired to remake it yet.

I’ll tidy it up, but it’s just an idea.

Start with the stuff in blue. And then add in the stuff in green until it works. Play it by ear. Maybe keep on expanding outwards if you have to. It’ll work eventually. I assume.

Maybe scatter a few outriggers, because that saves money.

The funny green lines are stairs.

It is suitable for one hermit who wants to take refuge.

Call it a hermit house, a faraday fort. I prefer hermit house.

Two means two high. Three means three high.

My chest hurts. I need rest.

Expandable:

If you need more living space, you can climb to the top of the whole complex and lounge about on the top of it. Maybe 3 units in a field close to a rural road, right next door to a farm house. That’s enough. They live like hermits. That solves the problem of how to be a hermit. That is a problem solved.

Privacy

Some people need privacy, even to be human. I understand that these people are trying to upgrade us to human 2.0 (or 3.0 depending on who you ask). But a lot of people don’t want to upgrade. We’re okay with the old version. And do so without privacy causes us so much suffering that it isn’t worth even explaining. So perhaps some people might just seek out privacy.

Some of us might just do it. And some of us might be killed, but why not try it anyway. It’s not like living without privacy is very good, and it isn’t sustainable. As for destabilising the system, it’ll fail sometime anyway, so why worry.

Some of us need privacy, because to live without it causes tremendous unhappiness. And to have it would make us so happy! And also, a lot of us just want to play video games or whatever.

If someone else has one, and you can’t afford your own, you could always just pitch a tent on the roof of their deck? Like, the top deck.

*

And these people have tons of people visiting.  For tea/coffee, or lunch/dinner. You have a tea party on the roof. Or a barbecue.

Edit: perhaps you could perch this on the front landing:

Edit 2:

https://universal-containers.com/new-10ft-office-container/

Maybe use two 10 ft containers. It might be much easier to set up.. follow the links. Better pictures in the other side. Also, spin 90 degrees.

Once you’ve build the basic cabin/office and the bathroom, and all the rest, you could just build additional rooms on top, or whatever. Or just one more room. Just build a wooden shack on top, stuff like that. A bedroom or a lounge. It’s not rocket science. Just any additions can be build on top. Or just a deck with a railing and a sun shelter so you can hang out and drink, or bbq, or anything. Building safety regulations notwithstanding.

Roof top garden.
